49' Mercury (yes another one)

Lately, I saw a slew of these being build and I always liked the car - so I decided to make one of my own.

Its the new Revell kit. I am also trying out a new paint - Testors One Shot enamels in custom colors. I used a Tamiya fine grey primer. Two thin coats of Testors LIme Green Metallic Pearl and two coats of Testors One SHot Enamel Gloss.

The metal flakes are rather large and look good on a custom car or a hot rod, but not on any stock vehicles.

On the body I used custom grille, custom vented hood and custom rear tail lights. The frenched headlights are kit items - it already comes like that.

Check these out:

The paint was rubbed out with Tamiya fine compound only - I am very pleased with the quality of the paint - it covers well, dries quickly and the gloss coat is phenomenal and very even and glossy!

The pinstriping are kit decals. I also painted the engine block and the dashboard in the body color. The engine received some detail painting and spark plugs only.

The dashboard was detail painted.

The wheels are kit items - but I think they look really great on this car.

What do you think?

Excellent start, I'm glad you went with these wheels. The pinstriping is a nice touch too.

Re: 49' Mercury (yes another one)

I am not sure if anyone is following this one, but I got an update.

I set the stance for the car:

Also did the interior work. I went with light sand and brown linolium from Tamiya:

Here is the engine in its cradle:

Nothing is quite done - but its getting there. Any suggestions and/ or comments?

Re: 49' Mercury (yes another one)

Surely you won't keep the Caddy emblems on? Paint over them or something?
