99 ford taurus-blend door actuator

I have a 1999 ford taurus and we need to replace the blend door actuator. how do we replace it? Can you get to it under the hood or do you have to go through the dash? does anyone have a fix it sheet for this?

It's located under the dash and is connected to the heater box assembly.

Re: 99 ford taurus-blend door actuator

I just replace mine Satruday (the module is techinally know as the ATC module). It's a fairly difficult job because you mainly have to work on your side/back and because of tight quarters. I found it easier to remove the glove box as this gives a better view of the area.

Note: I had to disconnect the battery as to reset my PCM before the door sync'ed up with the instrument controls. I suspect the door was in a different state then the PCM thought it was. Also, nut size is 8mm.

Re: 99 ford taurus-blend door actuator

It sounds like you have the Electronic Automatic Temperature Control (EATC) system so your door is electrically actuated rather than vacuum like the manual HVAC system.

For what it's worth, there is a recal procedure that you can initialize with the EATC system so that you don't need to disconnect and reconnect the battery, losing other stored information and clock settings.

Re: 99 ford taurus-blend door actuator

Pretty sure EATC was not available in 99?

Re: 99 ford taurus-blend door actuator

What instrument controls are you referring to that your actuator had to sync up with then? The manual HVAC controls have no smarts to them, so nothing to sync up with.
