Doing it all over again

Hi,

Here's the background:
I wasn't into cars until about 2 yrs. ago when I bought a '95 GLE.
Good laugh - my last car was a '87 Camry Wagon!

Since then I've gotten into mechanics, driving, all that good stuff.

Issue - the GLE is an automatic.

From what I've read and understood, I'd get alot more out
of a manual in the long haul. I've done slight mods (ypipe, intake, strut
bars) but I really want the extra power and want to start with turbos and such.

Now the question-
If I was going to buy/trade in for a manual, would I be better off w/a GLE or an SE??? What do you guys drive and why? What are the major differences? I'm looking at 4th gen. Max's like mine.

Thanks in advance,
J.

Also consider how good of a driver you are and if you are doing track racing, then decide if you need/want ABS brakes, some drivers find them to be a pain in the ass and they can actually increase your stopping distance.

All of them have it but the GXE, but its an option, so You can find an SE and GLE without it, you can also do a 5 speed tranny swap on your GLE if you dont have it. I am not sure how hard it is to find a SE without it, my GLE didnt have it.

Doesnt matter, you can do it either. I was just wondering if your car had ABS because you say you dont like it, so might as well get a new car (SE)

I dont really know much about cars, but I think ABS is tied into the ECU of the car. You could just pull the ABS fuse for the ABS motor and that would prevent it from working. But you also have the weight of the ABS motor and the extra lines that go to the ABS motor. So for racing purposes, that is kind of a waste of weight, and for daily driving, ABS isnt bad to have since if the moron in front of you slams on his brakes for fun, you can stop pretty good by just slamming yours on.

yes, but when u hit ur breaks along with the idiot, ur wheels may lock up and you will slide. when u slide, u lose traction. in some situations the abs wouldnt matter, but if ur on wet roads or ice or gravel or anyhitng liek that, its jus gonna make it worse

how about this
to actually change your transmission is very but I mean VERY expensive.
if you got the green go ahead but it would be better if you sold your car and just bought yourself a manual max.
but that's just my opinion.

You're looking 4,000 dollars straight in the face, plus labor($1,000?). Trade it in a and get a 5-speed.
