Usually if you go do something else, you'll find the part upon your return to the project; weird but that's how it goes for me!

Get an orange carpet with a short pile( the industrial cord type) whatever colour kit your working with seems to show up if you drop a part, unless its an orange kit of course but luckily there are not too many of them. The alternative is to scratch build the part or contact the kits importer direct, they will sometimes carry spares or can get one for you, I have done this with a couple of kits I bought in my country

I don't understand how people lose kit parts?
I keep all my parts in a organiser tray with compartments, have a floor protector under my table, and make sure to only have the parts I am working on out on my workbench.

somebody hit my table somehow,(not me,i would have looked for falling down parts),and so the parts were gone

Blame the cats! Even though I keep all of kit pieces in a box I sometimes forget to put the lid back on. It's not unkown to come back and find that my cat has picked up one of the bits (most often chrome) and carried it off somewhere.
At least they haven't eaten any pieces yet

I even arranged the caster to send the replacement to the vendor who gave me the parts I needed from an unbuilt one he had. Months later, I'm picking up a pile of newspapers going out for recycling, and there was the wheel/tire...had been a great toy for the cat until it got lodged under the pile of papers. Cats will play with the damndest things! A big, empty box is a favorite.
