Tranny Fluid to use??
Hey guys sorry about all the questions lately. Im going to be doing some preventitive maintenance to my transmission here soon (ie. drop the pan, replace the filter and gasket and refill with whatever I lost) Im not doing a complete flush at a shop due to the horror stories I've heard. My question is what type of transmission fluid should I buy? Not so much Dexron3, I know it needs that, But more of what Brands; valvoline, mobil1, castrol, etc etc... and maybe if you guys could recommend synthetic vs conventional. Keep in mind I am only doing a partial fill by removing the pan and filter. Also how many quarts should I buy doing it this way? Thanks!!!!

Re: Tranny Fluid to use??
I use Castrol brand Dextron-III ATF. About up to 8 quarts on a pan drop. I recall getting the 4 quart (1 gallon) containers is normally cheaper than buying it by the quart. Walmart has good prices on it.
Or you can try the Mobil1 synthetic ATF and let us know how it works out. ![]()

Re: Tranny Fluid to use??
Bob, your always my guy, thank you so much. I'm using what your using, your never wrong. Staying away from mobil1 synthetic though. Sorry, I know you are just dying to know what problems it causes, but you cant trick me that easily. HA HA Thanks again!!! I will buy 8 quarts and if I dont use all of it just keep it in my trunk in case of an emergency.

Re: Tranny Fluid to use??
![]() I don't know about never being wrong but I would not intentionally steer you or anyone else in the wrong direction. Good decision passing on the synthetic ATF. Also, be sure to use the AC Delco screen filter. AC Delco PN: TF304, GM PN: was 25313825. Good luck. BTW - Just inspect the pan gasket for any damage or wear and reuse it if good. And pan bolt torque is 10 lbs-ft or 120 in-lbs.
