we got guys in the club with 500 rear wheel horsepower. we got a few with turbos and blowers, we even have a couple big blocks. so far the fastest is a 10.02 et. the car has a full frame, so it will take a lot.

The 94-96 SS have the 5.7L right? I would love to find one, but they are all too expensive. Is there a reason for this? Is it b/c not many were made?

total ss made is right under 70,000. that is why the price still stays kinda high. i have seen some for 10k, but they are beat! some guys have many things added on, which is why the price may seem high. the secret that a few have found, is the police 9c1 caprice is identical to the ss without leather. you can find this in great shape for 3 to 5 grand. throw some rims on, fix a few things things, dye a few inside parts and your rollin a cool ride that you can join the impala club with! i have a cop car i drive to work every day and it has 185k on it and it runs perfect! we have a couple cars up at 300k doing good. if you look for a used cop car, make sure it has twin exhaust pipes. the car came with two v8's and the single side exhaust sucks! check out www.goissca.org and see what the club has. on the left of the page it has a fourm list, and you can learn tons about the car there!!

Stock is an underrated 260 and they have been lasting for 250k miles or more. The EFI helps (ring seal and cold operating mixtures are better) 383 Stroker kits are pretty common and inexpensive. and will get you 400 hp all day. 500 hp is easy but not cheap. I would say that over 500 you'll start noticing reliability issues. The 4L60E behind it will go really fast. The stock internals are pretty weak. Its a catch 22 with them, either you keep stock line pressures and the clutches burn up, or you make firm shifts and the drums and planet sets fracture. The T56 six-speed is a common (and pretty easy) modification, but they don't like torque above 450. The TH400 will fit pretty easily, but they lack a lockup convertor and overdrive. 4L80E is another bulletproof choice, but that is as expensive as a T56 conversion.

On a stock short block, we are seeing very nice streetable hp with LT4 heads, and a mild cam. That will get you close to 350 ish if you do good porting and computer work.

Mine is stock with some intake mods, a computer reflash, and 275/40-17 tires and would probably run mid-13s all day. Its not too tough to get them in the 12s if your wallet is sufficient.

The 9C1 caprice is a good idea. They have similar qualities. They lack leather, the floor shifter like the later SSs had, and I think they didn't all come with 3.08 rears. They also have a taller, softer springs and steel wheels. All of this is easily remedied with either SS or aftermarket springs and wheels. I have an SS and I'll sell it for about $150,000. I love it too much.

1996 Impala SS - Black

4l60e Automatic transmission
Last year of limited production run 94-96
ONLY year with Analog gauges (not green digital)
ONLY year with shifter in console
59,800 miles - Second owner (3yrs / 10k miles)
New Brakes (rotors and pads) less then 1000 miles
New Exhaust w/ Flowmasters (still has tags on)
MSD ignition box and MSD 8mm Wires
1Le elbow to eliminate home plate restrictor
K&N Air Filter
I will include a set of police rims for winter tires

I have not time to enjoy this car as I have 3 classic car projects. I lost my garage space last year. The car has some paint chips/dings but still looks good when clean and waxed.
Avg. price for the car with miles and condition is $16,000. The one thing it needs is front end parts. Total cost of about $500. including labor. I don't have the time or money to do it. Asking $12,500 cash for quick sale. email me if interested .. located in NYC area [email protected]
