COMPLETE: 1983 Lemans winning Porsche 956 #3 car

Finished this up over the New Year holiday. I studied alot of engine photos of the 956/962. The photos inspired me to add some additional detail to the rather plain engine bay. Pro tech line and fittings combined with detailmaster hardware were used for all plumbing. I scratch built some areas as well including brake duct towers and coolant piping from solder.
All in all I think it helped bring a 22 year old kit to life. Paint is Tamiya blue and white along with dupont 2k clear. Decals were pretty difficult to work with because of their sheer age but I managed.

This is gorgeous. I love all road and racing Porsches and their heritage and this model is a wonderful tribute to Porsche's racing success. You "managed" pretty well with those decals: the whole model looks flawless, at least in these pics. GREAT JOB.

This is one i have sitting around to be built. An inspirational build that makes me wanna start it....but then there's stuff to finish first...sigh!

I agree with Robrex. Of all those cool 956/962 liveries this is still the daddy!
Just read the Norbert Singer LeMans book over the holidays where he describes that the engine of this car seized on the last lap at the end of the Mulsanne straight.....somehow they just about made it to the finish line to win!

Really a great looking model.The paintwork and decals look fantastic and I really like the way you detailed the engine bay,the wires and fittings add an awful lot to this area without going over the top.Really well done.

Thanks guys.. I really enjoyed building this one. It is vintage enough yet not too old if that makes any sense?? Regardless this car has a rich history that I had to make it special by detailing it a bit.

Looks terrific! Great build, classic kit- and I've always loved the 956. Very nice work on the engine bay.

One suggestion, though- it looks like you have the car as it would be for race start- fresh tyres, clean, etc. I believe Porsche taped up the headlight covers for the beginning of the race to protect them until sunset. This could be a really cool touch for a 'race ready' look.

I don't mean to be picky. But the not sanded places on the chassis and the gearbox do not fit to the otherwise excellent work.
