Insufficient EGR Flow Error

I have a 2001 GM, and am having Check Engine light issues. Autozone read the codes and said the error is Insufficient EGR Flow. I replaced the EGR valve and made sure the port from the valve into the intake had no carbon build up in it.

I had it reset after changing the EGR valve. It came back on after about 15 miles. I have checked all the vacuum lines to make sure they are all open, which means the valve should be opening as it should. Still getting Insufficient EGR Flow error.

What should I look for next? I am not a fan of leaving a dash warning light on.

Re: Insufficient EGR Flow Error

You did not have a bad EGR valve. Insufficient flow is usually indicitave of a bad DPFE sensor. If the code was P0401, the DPFE is more than likely the problem.

Re: Insufficient EGR Flow Error

Thanks. Where is it and how difficult is it to change out?

This Grand Marquis is my first Ford product. I know my way around Gen Motors products much better.

I love this Grand Marquis. Bought it about 14 months ago with only 31K miles on it. I am up to 53K now. Gets about 30-32 MPG on the road, and I travel often on my job. It is a great car for those long road trips!

It's at the back of the engine, before you replace it call your local ford dealer this might still be covered under warrenty.

Re: Insufficient EGR Flow Error

it is bolted to the back of the throttle body. Here is a generic pic of one. Yours may not look exactly like it, but it will be close.

Re: Insufficient EGR Flow Error

Thanks for the advice. I replaced the feedback pressure sensor (27.95 at my local parts store). It was back near the firewall about a foot behind the EGR valve. No new check engine light!!!!!! Warranty was not really an issue for a $30 part. It was really easy to change out. Just one plug and two neoprene lines. Snapped out and back on in less than 5 minutes. It took longer to find than it did to replace!
