Thumbs down Times when you should have listened..

Yesterday at my work (I am slave in a supermarket), an old woman asked me something while I was putting some goods on shelves. I think she wants me to move so she can get by (NO; I am not fat..), so I just answer yes to whatever she was asking me and move a little .. So I moved without actually hearing what she asked me because I was in my own thoughts..
Suddenly she says: Now, young man, now you can tie my shoelaces!
Me: *thinks* WTF?, but I guess I have to do this since I said "yes"..

This is NOT a joke - it actually happened.
Greets
I-Tech - who has to pay more attention to what other people say to him.

PS: Have you ever been in a similar situation?

i almost got fired because of a similar situation. over the summer i pumped gas and this one lady came in and while i was taking her card to swipe it, she asked if i could wash the windows for her, but i just saw her lips move and didn't hear anything so i kinda chuckled and was like yaaah. so after she was done i gave her her receipt and said have a good day. and she goes aren't you going to wash my windows in her bitch voice and i was like oh and she got all pissed, i washed her windows for her, but she still went and told my manager and we had a 30 minute talk about customer service, good thing we were in need of people otherwise i would have gotten fired

That is so typical! In these types of situations I don't think that we should get so much blame.. Sometimes you get very stressed at work, and sometimes it doesn't occur to our bosses, that we were actually thinking about work.. (or other things )

A very good reason to pay attention

Man the worst time has to be in class when your goofin' off and the teacher says"Now can you repeat what I just explained to the rest of the class"?
I usually try to wing it but it only worked once
most of the time I just look like a tool but all in all it's still funny since I get a laugh out of it.

i, unfortunatley, have alot of these situations because when people say something and i don't understand what they said, i always feel like a tool having to ask them to repeat themselves. its the worst when they have heavy accents and you feel like you'll be offending them by asking them again. for instance, i pulled into a gas station to ask for directions, and the very kind middle eastern gentlemen behind the desk rattles on with all the directions while i just nod my head, not even understanding a single word coming out of his mouth. i pulled out and drove straight into the next gas station and asked the guy there.

i second that..there is only one class that i always HAVE to pay attention in because the teacher is always asking someone to repeat what they said..

but i never really get in trouble for nething..but its when your walking in the halls and not paying attention to where the hell your going and someone opens their locker door and SMACK right into it....not fun

something kind of like that happened today in my spanish class at school. the teacher always seems to ask yes or no questions so most of the time everybody will just reply "si" or "no" but today I was talking to my friend and not paying attention and then she called on me and asked me something. I didnt hear what she asked and I didnt want to ask her to repeat the question because she would just get even more pissed since she knew I already wasnt paying attention. So anyways I just answer "si" and everybody starts laughing. I later found out that she had asked me in spanish if I had 2 heads and 4 arms... wtf kind of question is that anyways? :o

*lol* Gotta love foreign language classes. It's even an example of *someone else* slacking off in class.

In German 2 we were learning about German schooling and homework, etc. The teacher asked us to write the sentence, "I do my homework with my friends," in German. This one guy was too busy talking with his friends that when she called on him to read his answer he ended up saying "Ich mache meine Freunden" which means "I do my friends."

Only 3 students were laughing with the teacher b/c we were the only ones who understood what he had just said, but once we stopped laughing long enough to explain, the class was out of control and, yeah, it was funny back then.

I do this all the time, especially at work:

I'll be walking along, and someone I know will be coming the opposite direction, and I'll be expecting them to say something like "how you doin' Mike?" and so I'm all primed to say "pretty good, how are you?" and instead they say "Hi mike" and I still say "pretty good..." happens ALL the time...

I am sooooooooo guilty of this, too. That, and I tend to just zone out or let my mind wander when I'm standing in line or waiting for an elevator, so when people talk to me then I always have to ask them to repeat b/c I was paying NO attention whatsoever to them. :o

I do the opposite, sorta. I always say the same things, which aren't the answers to questions... So I leave people hangin' all the time...

"Hey Jay, how's it going?"
"Hi." or "Good morning." [regardless of time of day ] or *nod*

LOL, as I was reading down the thread I was thinking of saying the same thing

I always do that, like for example Bob will come up to me and be like:

Bob: "How are you?"

Me: "Hey!"

or

Bob: "Hi Mark"

Me: "Good, you?"

lol
