I think its supposed to be based on the style today.
While we're on that subject, I have a question about Mustang 5.0's. Lots of people like the 80's Mustang style, and they play around with those 5 litres they had. But that engine isn't really that powerful, why hasn't anyone swapped it for the 302 that the old Boss used to have? Didn't that engine have around 300hp?

There is supposed to be a boss edition next year, possibly using the 4.6L stroked out to 5.0. Probably no one swapped the old Boss motors in because they realy didnt make all that much hp. Swap heads, cam, intake on a 5.0 in a fox and you got your 300 hp.

Boss 302 are dogs, that why. The ports are too big, no velocity. For high revving yes.
My Boss 302 can live at 10k rpms, but there are a lot better heads now days to do it with.

I should say, the short block of the Boss is awesome. I plan on using it when I get back to the states to build a 600hp Beast. The top end is really outdated. The 4 bolt mains, forged crank, rods, and pistons can handle a butt load of power, but in order for the Boss 302 to make it your cam is going to be so damn big that it really would not be that fun to drive on the streets.

You can't stroke out a 4.6 to a 5.0, at least not in the conventional way of thinking. Ford canned the 'spray bore' tech and SHM is using heavy boring/stroke combo for their 5.0+ liter motors. (at least, from what I understand).
Ford does have the 5.0 cammer motor out for 2003, very similar to the FR500 motor: 415 hp / 415 torque. I'm down with it. |
