91 civic

I recently have had a new head put on my civic and it has never been right since. It smokes like crazy (blue and grey. I have been dealing with some shad tree mechanics and they can't seem to figure it out. It has 150 compression and it was a rebuilt head. Does anyone have any ideas of what could be my problem. I realize that it could be many things but I just wanted to get some opinions from others. I think that the rings might be bad. Also i have heard that if the rings are bad the pistons are as well. Is this true?:bandit:

Head gasket? It could also be the rings but I dont know about the pistons. Do the head and the block match up perfect? Is either warped?

Are you losing oil and coolant? It might be the head gasket. If the rings are bad then you will need to bore the sleeves out to make a good surface for the rings to seal against. Removing extra materiual means you will need a larger bore piston and therefore the old pistons are useless.

i am not losing coolant but oil is being burned. It looks like my car is on fire it smokes so much. I really don't know shit about cars, but I am learning very quickly. I am kinda afraid I am getting ripped buy this mechanic. My car has been in and out of his shop for three months and has never ran right since. How much is a head gasket and what is the head gaskets function? The head was rebuilt and was machined, I assume that means seals and possibly the head gaket but I am not sure. Are there any other possibilities? Thanks

if it smokes right after u start it up it could be the valve seals

Exactly...which should have been replaced when the head was rebuilt...Also, when the head was off, they should have been able to determine the condition of the rings/pistons. The head is easy work compared to the block, so any real mechanic would jump at the opportunity to do block work once they remove the head and see bad rings, etc..
Did the car smoke before the work??

The head gasket is the seal between the head and the block...usually if it is bad/not sealing, you get coolant and oil mixing in each other's compartments..

my d15b2 did the exact same thing. It smoked like the car was on fire so we put a new head on it. Didnt help. Come to find out, it was the oil rings. they are the thinnest and will usually be the first to burn.

My compression was 180 across all cylinders and still smoked :/

you might as well get another engine

It is not the valve seals and it is not the head gasket both have been replaced. I can't figure this out. Does anyone know a resonable mechanic in Maryland that could take a look at my car. Or better yet does anybody know where I can get a engine that has any type of warranty. I am sick of getting ripped off and I need my car back on the road fast.:smoker2:

if the head gasket was replaced and its still happening the head or block could be warped and have to be milled
