Post Favourite bass lines

Don't know about you, but I like it when a song has a pronounced and memorable bass line. Mine:

Queen's "Under Pressure" (more or less the same as Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby")

Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust"

Bon Jovi "Keep the Faith"

Yours?

Alex

Sweet home Alabama by Lynard Skynard probably the most memorable to me. Thats the only one I can think of at the moment.

Saw Sevendust do a cover of that song in concert, was awesome...

My favorite basslines off the top of my head... I'm sure there's ones I like better, but these are the only ones I can think of right now:

Beastie Boys - Gratitude (this one actually isn't sampled)
RATM - Clear the lane
Sting - My One And Only Love (Beautiful song!)
Bob Marley & teh Wailers - No woman no cry
Primus - Tommy the cat (can't have a baseline thread without mentioning Les Claypool)
Sublime - What I got
Leftfield - Final Hit (I think that's the name... it's off the Trainspotting soundtrack)
Tool - Jimmy (I think... from the Aemema album. I'll find out and edit the post tomorrow)

"Blood suger sex magic" by the Chilli Peppers.
Infact anything by the Chilli's has a great Bass line, Flea is a bass god.

"Stand by Me" is a real classic, and one of the first songs to be popular with a strong dominante bass line.

Best ever bass lines:

The fretless slap bass break in You Can Call Me Al (or whatever) by Paul Simon on Graceland

Boning in the Boneyard by Fishbone.

I would also have to agree with ci5ic about Tommy the Cat, but unfortunately only from memory - I think I've lost the cd

  excuse me??!?!??!?! Ice Ice Baby was a sample of Under Pressure. Dunno how you get "more or less the same" out of that.

surprised no one has mentioned hotel california....hate the song, love the bassline.

Sevendust- Xmas Day...my perfect song. I've listened to it at least once, every day for the past several months, and it still sends a shiver through my body. That song is so incredibly haunting and beautiful.

Slap bass provided by P-nut (311) Victor Wooten (Bela Fleck) or Jaco Pastorius (Too many to name, including Weathervane)

Alice in Chains- No excuses

But Steel! I'm dissapointed in you for not mentioning...

Burton Years:
Metallica - Harvester of Sorrow
Metallica - Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
Metallica - Call of Ktulu

Newsted Years:
Metallica - My Friend of Misery
Metallica - The God that Failed
Metallica - Bleeding Me
Metallica - King Nothing
Metallica - Wasting My Hate
Metallica - Devil's Dance

Most of these songs have either a alot of Bass present in the melody or are lead by a Bass tone.

Also dont forget the Load/ReLoad albums were heavily influenced by both Kirk Hammet and Jason Newsted. Lars and James basically let them play what they felt like.

... See what you made me do... I've gone off and rambled... sorry folks! I'll stop!

Also lets not forget
Primus and Ozzy's Cover of the Black Sabbath song... Nativity in Black (NIB)
