I was looking through one of my Scale Auto Enthusiast mags. today(Apr.2000 issue pgs.34-40) and i read Juha Airio's article where he coverted a '65 Rambler 4-dr sedan into a 2-dr hardtop. He used something called catalyzed polyester putty to modify the roof from another car to look like a '65 Rambler roof.Is this the same as bondo or something completly differant.is it a 2-part putty or does it come in a tube.I know he uses it in alot of his conversions.

It sounds like some bulk-adding, quick-hardening stuff. Have you tried using microballoons and superglue? It's almost like SSP-HG and sands very well too.

That is what I want to is add, some bulk.I heard that bondo is used to "sculpt" custom body work by some modelers(I even saw some pictures where a guy carved a master of a car body out of a chunk of bondo)and I was wondering if this is the same stuff as catalyzed putty. If bondo is safe for styrene I would love to sculpt custom side panels for my '96 Firebird.I just want to know before I spend 5 bucks for a pint.

I never tried micro balloons and I only use CA for filling gaps, pinholes, and panel lines.

CA is great for filling gaps i adheres really well, but the prob is that it cures too hard. it becomes very difficult to sand, thats when the microballoon shines. when mixed together you get the ultimate putty, the microballoons makes it easier to sand. the CA gives it great adheasion and cures instantly so you can work on it imdeately.
