engine messed up, need help

whats up peeps. well heres the situation. I was on my way to school the other night and out of nowhere i heard this loud ass sound coming from my engine. I pulled over and i sounds really loud. to make things short i had to have it towed back to my house. My brother came over to check it out and he says that it seems like i threw a rod or something like that by the sounds of it. he says that im going to have to replace my motor because it just wont be worth it to fix it. My question is how much will this cost? has any replaced the engine yet? well at any rate it is going to have to sit for a couple months until i come up with the $. so if any1 can give me a idea at how much im looking at spending i would appreciate. By the way i have a 95 Gle. thanks guys

well, unfortunately it's not gonna be very cheap...you're prolly looking at around $2000-2500 for a remanufactured engine, since Nissan doesn't make the VQ30 anymore. on top of that you're gonna have installation costs. that's a huge bummer man, i feel for ya. keep us posted.

rebuild it

hey buddy, does your car still run? if so you didn't throw rod. Taking a motor out and putting one in isn't that hard any ways. read a couple books from the library and then look at your car. there are only 4 motor mounts one on each side of the engine. first diconnect and label all the wires and hoses, take out the radiator. then pull the tranny, means the driveshafts brakes and all the stuff, then the linkage and the motor to tranny bolts--by the way i'm skimming this off the top of myhead, pull it then the motor make sure you labeled everything you took off. then if you don't wanna rebuild it your self. check some of the local machine shops and see what they'd charge to bore/hone the block turn the crank and redo your heads and then put it back together for you, you could even have them do some porting and polishing since its apart and get your intake and valve covers polished up, I think sinsce you have to let it sit you should read some books and have some friends that know that know there sh#t help you out hell just offer them beer and have them talk you through it. I bet you'd save a ton of money by doing it yourself, plus you would really learn how your car is put together and in the furure you can diagnose things easier.

yeap

of course u can put in a 2001 engine into a '95 maxima. the engines are the same from 1995 - 2001, but the ecu controlling performance is different. the engine bays are the same from 1995 - 2004. so far... i read from org that to put in a 3.5 into a 4th gen, u really need hood clearance...does anybody kno where i can find a wrecked altima3.5 ?

there's more of a difference between a 4th and 5th gen than just the ECU. the 5th gen also has a variable intake manifold that controls airflow and gives more power in the higher rpm.
