Angry 240SX Newbie Vent

Ok...I am just going to say this now and save myself some trouble...

I have been around 240SX's since 96...so I know a lil...I had a S14 and modded it quite nicely...left it for the 300ZX shown below (reasons are on the site)...

But what I see on this site, 240sxforums.com, and freshalloy.com is a bunch of newbies who picked up SCC or Shitty Street or Improper Tuner and saw a 240SX w/an SR w/S15 headlights and is now here trying to take our 240SX's and turn them into RWD Honda's (no offense to the Honda guys but most ppl will agree that the TRULY good Honda's are hard to come by and mostly what you see is tacky and rice)

Here's problem # 1

Motor...the KA24DE (the motor that comes in the 91-98 240SX) is a very capabale motor and w/the same amount of money you spend on a SR swap you can have yourself a KA-T that kicks as much and even more fatty butt than the SR...I have a friend w/an 11 second KA-T and in Florida there's Duy's old car now owned by Bill which is a 10 second KA-T...I have yet to see a SR in the 10's...

Problem # 2

Exterior...I like the S15 headlights...I do...but there's really nothing wrong w/the S14 lights...the S13 lights...well I like the S13 Silvia lights and I think they are a nice fit for the car...but spending 2500 PLUS labor PLUS painting...that's alot...realize one thing...the 240SX is a sexy car already...

Problem # 3

Wheels...18's or wheels bigger....dont make you faster...if you are going for show...honestly...get another car...although I DID say the 240SX is a sexy car...doesnt make it into a show car...240SX was meant to be driven...only reason ever to get 18's is to fit 15 inch brake rotors! LOL

Problem # 4

Systems...well I like some nice tunes just like the next guy...so on my S14 I swapped out the speakers and put in nicer ones and got a diff. headunit...that was the extent of my audio need...putting huge boxes slows you down...and surely makes you into less of a performance enthusiast than the guys who dont have the extra 100 lbs of stereo in...and dont use it as an excuse when you lose too!

End of vent...

Feel free to comment

agreed !
yes da 240sx is a excellent car, but now a days these kids are rice-a-tising these 240sx with bigg ass wings, 19"rims 4 t.v.'s and a system so loud that you cant hear ur self think, if you want all that plz get a suv or a other car but leave the 240sx alone its not a show car its a DRIFT car, it is made 2 go sidways!!!
.... about da sr20det vs. ka24de both motors are capaible, i personally like the sr20det for the fact that it is a very tunnable motor and can take up 2 14psi wid stock internals, but yes it is agreed that for the same $ and time you can also have a ka24de-t that can also thake 14psi of boost.
....but i would also get the sr20det because it is a rare, strong, relaiable motor,
btw if u want a 10sec. car plz dont get a 240sx, get a supra tt, rx-7,3000gto, or sumthing 2 dat extent cause it will take a hell of a lot 2 make a 240sx go into 10sec range, buy a 240sx if u want a car that has a total package of looks, power, speed, and handleing!!

there's my 2 cents:smoker2: :smoker2:

yea i totally agree with both of you except for one point. the reason i wouldnt' turn my ka24de into a ka24de-t is because of the mileage. That's why more people are buying sr20dets. Less mileage. I think the reason why sr20dets can't make the 10sec. range is because there isn't adequate parts in north america. what would 400hp sr20det 1/4 time with about 2700lbs with driver?

oh yea i forgot to add... how much do u think it would cost for a sr20det and the install? because i've seen the turbo kits go for 4g's american i'm in canada and flash option offers s13 sr20det with free shipping for 2100??? is it a good buy

i wouldn't want a 10 second SR because 240's are made to go sideways and actually drive, not just go in a straight line. i HATE drag racing, although i can respect those who like it. 240SX is a performance machine, plain and simple. it was made to be DRIVEN, not to "cruuuze" in. it was made to be drifted, not made to have lambo doors put on it. in the next few days, i'm buying a 1990 hatch which i plan to turn into an SR powered Sileighty as soon as i have enough money for the engine and front end. it won't have lambo doors, it won't have 19" chromies, hell it probably won't even have an aero kit (all the good ones from Japan are too expensive). but one thing it WILL have, is POWER!!

my rant is over.

well i choose some go and some show. i'm gonna get 17 inch gunmetal split 5 spokes, that weights in at 18 lbs a wheel, with either 215 or 235 tires, and alittle bit of bomex here and there, but of course i'm finally doin this to my car cuase i feel that my car is fast enough for the people i'm currently racing. of course my next step is to add boost to the KA since my motor is still low miles, then i'll be running with the big boys, yeee hawww~

Glad you all see the point...

you can always buy a low mileage KA for like less than 800 bux...and while you have it out...build it up and turbo it and throw it in...now you have a back up motor and your KA-T ready to kick fatty butt...

If you want 10's...honestly you shouldnt buy really anything Japanese...go get yourself a '03 Cobra or a ZO6...get you there a lot quicker and cheaper...

Actually, 240s can make use of big wings because they are RWD. It will make a big difference on traction when youre going 100+mph (which I do on almost a daily basis). I just dont have one on my car because I think they are ugly, not because they are ricey.

What do you mean RWD honda? Are you saying all civics, etc. are rice? I would love to have a rwd civic.
