Anyone heard of this?

I was talking to my mechanic today about my oil issues and this is what he told me to do...

Drain the oil, then refill with about 4 to 5 quarts of a diesel fuel kerosene mix, then run for about a min then drain and refill with oil.

Anyone ever heard of doing that before?

He said it would clean it right out.

well no not that much fuel. This is what I do. Drain about 2 quarts out of oil and refill with auto tranny fluid, or diesel. run for about 2-3 mins. Any longer you run the risk of breaking down the oil to much or thining it out. This should take about 80% of the build up out of the motor. Make sure you let the motor drain for at least 30 mins. BUT there is a problem if you remove gunk that is plugging a hole or keeping a ring from allowing oil past it. You will now burn more oil or spring a leak in a seal or something. So this has pros and cons about doing it.

I also do this every other time I change oil. I also did it when I went to full synthetic.

DO NOT REV THE MOTOR DOING THIS WITH EITHER YOU COULD CAUSE foam and that is like dry running your engine.

What the hell for? Good motor oil has detergents in it anyway. I don't put voodoo crap in my oil at any time. The only thing I'll put anywhere is gas drier to nail any moisture in the bottom of the tank.

Kerosene and deisel are essentially the same stuff, jet fuel and home heating oil are too.

I agree, why would you need to flush your block out? And top end engine cleaner will do the same, will also clean off your pistons and cause you to burn oil if you have high mileage, bad rings, etc...

hehe this reminds me of a story a friend of mine told me a while back ..

He owned a Baja bug, think that was the third in the line of four he owned. Anyways, so one week he managed to fix everything and it didnt breakdown by the next weekend so he figured he would treat his little bug to a little TLC and use one of those oil treatments. And it worked. Worked to well infact. Apparently what he didnt know was that he had a whole, and all the gunk build up was clogging it. I think he said about 3 or 4 hours after replacing the oil he took it for a spin and realized most of his oil had already drained right outa that whole. The moral of this story ... Not everything should be cleaned properly.

thought i would share that despite it already being said. But i like telling stories ...
