Question for the mechanics out there..

Ok i was driving my Villager today and it started to buck alittle so i pulled over turned the car off.....started it up and it was fine.
Then about 3 miles later it just died.....so i coasted to the emergency lane popped the hood and tried to start it up!
Well there was smoke coming from the starter but that wouldn't cause it to cut off right?
Anyway the car won't turn over even though it tries.........the battery, lights and all electrical is working fine......
so maybe the..........
any suggestions
thanks

smoke coming from the starter... car won't turn over... that should be like 1+1...the electrical systems have nothing to do with the starter, they just feed off of the battery. the starter is what kicks the engine over and gets it running, so if it won't turn over then that's most likely your problem, especially if smoke was seen coming from it.

i kinda figured that but im kinda of confused at what would cause the car to just die like that......The starter doesn't have anything to do with the car while its started
hmmmm
it bucked, back fired and sputtered.....

I'd first off replace your starter. It shouldn't be smoking. Also, how long has it been since your timing chain had been checked/replaced? If that thing jumps, it will mess you engine up completely, and even after heavy repairs, will NEVER run right again.
