starting off a race?

what's the best way of starting off? The way i do it is i have it in first gear with the hand breaks engaged with the engine reved up pretty high but without clutch engaged, then when its go time, release breaks, and engaging the clutch slowly as the engine is reved high. Is are there other ways of doing it, maybe more efficent techniques?

Curious as to why you have the handbreak on as you're getting ready to go? Especially since you're in a standard?
I just leave the clutch all the way in, put her in first, rev to desired RPM, drop the clutch all the way and feather the gas until full traction is there, then slam the gas all the way and go!

Isn't there another thread on the exact same thing???

Oh well, first and foremost... make sure you hit the swtich for the auxilary accelerators, THEN you pull the hand brake as hard as you can.... Honk the horn 4 times in 1.2349696969 second intervals, slam on the brakes, slam on the gas, remember to turn on the heat shield because at the friction in the air will completely melt your car down due to the sheer speed.

I agree, you'll also need to learn to put the car into [R]ace Mode once you're at speed. Now dont be fooled, you may think Reverse is only for going backwards... but at speed the transmission switches it into a extra gear. Works great.

Ask TerminalV... he's done it on the freeway ... albeit only going 15mph in heavy traffic and it was totally by accident. But he did none-the-less engage [R]ace mode on the freeway.

I've done it myself totally by accident myself twice. Both times I thought I was already in D or in OD (in my truck) and upshifted again... Whoops went through Neutral...whopps.

Not too many good places near by. Try over in Rockville, MD. Every thursday at the Barnes and Noble bookstore there's a gathering, usually see at least 25 cars, sometimes as many as 50. Always fun, not too much racing on Thursdays though. There's another spot out near Rockville as well that gets a pretty decent amount of racing on Friday's and Saturdays. Couldn't tell you where it is though, only been there once before myself.

awsome. I think there are some spots up at Leesburg VA since many of the roads are rural.

LOL, it's just a pic of my good friend's car. No real significance, just put it up. I change my sig often, so expect a new one soon
