does metallic paint look grainy

I just did a lil mid spray rub with soapy water and 1680 grit. The paint still looks a lil grainy.... any clues? This is some sort of plastikote enamel hobby spray paint. Feels smooth but looks grainy.

probably because you gave it that little rub.....
you should always clear coat metallic paints before trying to polish them or 'rub them out'.
Only other reason I can think of is if the paint was not completely mixed, or completely dry when you tried to rub it out.

If its not completely mixed i dunno what to do. I shook the can for two minutes then warmed it up then shook it for another two before i sprayed. As far as the rubbing I was just following the steps from the FAQ, because his painting looks awesome.

Well, look in the FAQ again. A rather smart member of this board listed a very easy-to-follow brief list of steps when painting cars, including the metallic colours, as well as solid ones.

Good luck
