Ok, hate to post a second thread on this...but,
I need fiberglass info! How do I work with this stuff? What kind do I want? How does it take paint? basically how do I build body kits with it and paint it to match? Any info, links, anything...would be great. I have a great source to buy the stuff mucho mucho cheap, trick is I just cant find any info on building with fiberglass without a mold or something ridiculous, huge, and expensive. Need to build bodykits, good ones, don't have a mold, wanna know how. thanks, -wheel again, sorry for the double thread.

I hate to break it to ya, but in order to make bodykits or anything glass, you will have to make a mold of some sort. Go to some sort of composite shop and ask for the materials to make molds. It should consist of glass, resin, and tooling gel coat.

i remember that piece of crap. someone probably paid money to buy it too. that guy should have paid someone else to take it from him. wheel1856 - you need a mold for the fiberglass so that it has a form to mimic. you can string it all up on a piece of wire at night and hope its a buddy club front end when you come out in the morning. you need something to tell it what to look like. if it was easy, everyone would make their own bodykits rather than paying money for one.

the mazda with the wood ram air?? funny stuff
anywho, I know working with the fiberglass wont be easy but, nothing worth doing is. I found a thread in the Honda/Acura How To forum last night that showed a dude putting a big chunk of styrofoam on his front end and sides, then cutting and shaving out a fron lip and side skirts from it. Then the article said to cover the foam in tinfoil er something and put the resin soaked fiber cloth over that.... does that sound about right? My big problem here is that Im not too sure how fiberglass works. I think I need resin, cloth and liquid hardener right? About gel coat, do I need that or will a good paint job stick to the hardened fiberglass? Me thinks matching the cars color with gelcoat could be near damn impossible. So yeah, any fiberglass tips would be great, I'd hate to have to resort to plywoood like that one poor schmuck thanks -wheel

the gel coat is to spray your molds. it gives them a hard, smooth coating so u can use the mold more than once
