Stopped in Crescent City,Ca. When I started the engine a lot steam and water out the exhaust. Heading to Portland, I added about a quart of water every 60 miles. At roseburg it tapered off some and by the time we reached Eugene it stopped completely. I't has been 1500 miles since then and haven't lost a drop. There's no oil in the water or water in the oil and the engine ran fine all this time. I have pressurized the system 15 lbs hot and cold for hours.
Its an 1986 accord lxi, 5 speed, 145,000miles. Any ideas? |

sounds like the engine was just on its period. happens every once and a while. as long as it fixed itself, be happy and keep an eye on your coolant and oil levels for a while. it may be that your head gasket is about to go, but some little scrap has plugged the hole for you, so you can still drive for a little while. keep an eye on your temp gauge also, no sense letting it overheat when it runs out of water for no apparent reason. the way you told that story makes it sound like there was a lot of water running around in your engine, which makes me wonder how nothing else got fucked up. count your blessings i guess and hope it doesnt happen again.
