Talking home made "COLD" air intake

well....after experiencing some cool power around 3000~4500 RPM om the last home made intake....i decided to change the mod....cuz there seemed to be too much hot air going into the engine.....so i put the bottom half of the air box back and took out the tiny stock air hose and out in one of those thick 3" aluminum hoses....mann...the power is great...i could feel most of the power at around 3850~6200 RPM...
....cuz lot`s of air and cold air = much more response + power on high end.....i did notice a little power loss before 3000 RPM, but the engine spins up pretty fast past that piont so it wasn`t so bad...^^

Question

ohh yeh.....u know there`s this tiny scensor stuck in the stock intake
hose close to the air box...when u yake it out it looks like a pointy thing and it`s plastic....what is that?....it seems to be some kind of a thermo thing....will it effect the car`s performance if that`s removed away from the intake hose? cuz i have run it like that for a couple of weeks and it seemed no affect to the engine!

That is the intake air temp sensor. If it is getting the same air as the filter it should be ok. I installed an OBX racing filter in place of the airbox and attached the sensor to the harness bracket. I plan to install a hose to bring in cooler air and will have to install it somewhere else. maybe in th filter!?!
