Should I buy parts from Ebay?

OK, I've read the last thread about ebay about one of the thread poster gettin ripped off on a set of bulbs. But I'm tryin to buy a set of rims+tires and maybe some other parts. Should I do it? or is there somewhere else I can get cheaper/used aftermarket parts?

i was the one ranting about the bulbs, and for the most part ive had only good experiences with ebay sellers. i was just warning about that one specific seller. but for items such as rims and tires, id be careful. unless the seller offers full insurance on the item, i wouldnt buy such expensive things. but as far as random items go, like intakes, spoilers, whatever... ebay is great.

this post is kind of old i guess, but i just wanted to reply. i have bought almost everything for my new accord and plenty of parts for the others off of ebay and only ever had two problems (one was $114 and one was $16, neither ever recovered). i have gotten everything from headlight bulbs, decals, head unit, and strut bars to my wing, full body kit, and wheels and tires, really just about everything on my new car, but i have bought and sold over 100 things easily on eBay and only had those 2 problems, and compared to pep boys and all of the other local overpriced retail stores i have saved tons of money. with really big purchases i usually email the other people who left the seller feedback and see what they have to say about them, but otherwise the feedback itself is a pretty good sign as long as there are no recent negatives. later.

Ebay has probably saved me a thousand dollars in the past year.
The one time I did buy a set of wheels and tires, I drove 500 miles and picked 'em up from the dude. He met me at a gas station, just in case I was a stalker.
He was friendly and polite, and 5 minutes later he had his cash and I had new rims and tires. I'd rather pick 'em up in person, and spend the shipping money on gas and make a vacation out of it.
I haven't been ripped off yet, but I'm a pessimist. I expect it every time, but so far, everyone's been honest.
Flunky
Stuff I bought:
Header: $170 (shipping included)
Cold Air Intake $34
Strut Bars $70 for two
Tie rods $50 for two
Wheels and Tires $62 for stock 14 inchers and decent tires.
Corner turn signal lens $7!!
