Just one for the thinkers.

Ok, since I have no life in the real world, I have a WHOLE lot of free time on my mind. So, I'm going to pose my latest pondering to all of you and see if you can help me reach a conclusionary point.

Think back to what we know of prehistoric man...the tools they fashioned, the paintings in the caves, the discovery of fire. Think forward to the harnessing of electricity, the cotton gin, the postal service. All of these have been great advancing milestones in history, yet we are still besieged daily by problems to which we don't have adequate means to solve.

So here is my question. At what point did ignorance and progress cross? The reason I am pondering on this is that no point in time has man ever been more comfortable than the time before him. The only thing that changes is application of knowledge. I believe at some point, or points, what we didn't know was squashed by what we do know, and while this provided temporary convenience and peace of mind, it also introduced another era of problems and questions. Perhaps we are not that far off from Senor CroMagnon.

Blah!

the remote control.... and the other part, because we didn't feel that we had to any more. if it's not broke/obsolete (or if we don't see it as such) why fix/change it?

I don't understand quite what you're getting at in the final paragraph, but otherwise, are you meaning that the more problems we solve, the more we create?? I think one of the largest problems from which we suffer currently is laziness and lack of personal responsibility..
If I understand you correctly, you are saying that history/evolution is cyclic, and at some point we will be solving some problems while creating others so massive that they push humanity back to the beginning, caveman days.

But I could be completely off base here.

Lightbulb

I tend to believe everything started once there were more than 2 people in the world; it was all downhill from there! As I observe my fellow human beings, I continually hope for mankind to progress toward the benefit of our continued existence; I am more often than not, confronted with the reality that we are rapidly heading towards our own extinction. For every step we take forward, there's some idiot forcing us as a whole, to take a giant step back into ignorance and dehumanization. Yet I am still determined to raise my children with the hope of the betterment of mankind; it's my responsibility as a father. I still choose to hope that goodness and prosperity for all will prevail over ignorance and stupidity. I say this in all seriousness and it is a true vision into what makes me tick and continue to help make the world a better place. That and my model car website

I don't really think there's such thing as ignorance...what is ignorance? To fail to accept a belief?

That falls under being opinionated, and I think EVERYONE has a different opinion on everything.

I like your opinion but i used ignorance in the context of meaning "lack of knowledge about something" of which there is plenty of.

Well, there will always be 'old-fashioned' people; its just a way of life, much due to the conditioning they recieved during their lives.

ie. Why doesn't a hardcore Shelby Cobra fan like the new Honda NSX? Even though they could produce similar results on the track?

It's just b/c they've grown accustomed to their ways, and as many works suggest, change is often hard, and even scary at times.

Well, that's my $0.02.
