A short time ago my friend howie was asked by his younger sibling, if he and I would build (his first 4thGen) his first car. As soon as I heard I was in, frankly I can't wait to start. First of all we already have a 91 civic hatch (no motor) in good shape though, and I believe were up to 7 grand to work with.
Right now my thoughts are b18c1 internal work, and possibly a T3/T4 Ball Bearing A/A cooled. Maybe even a 360 degree in the works. But I started this thread to get input from my fellow 4 g's and other's, so what do ya say? Feel free to throw idea's at me. Start brainstorming!

...well, since its his first car, I'd say throw a a6 or z6 or something in there so he doesnt kill himself....while he drives that around....build up a b20 turbo or something....

If I had $7k I'd go B18C5 with some head work, that would be killer.

Does he want show or go mostly? If he wants go I would say go with the B18C5, a some internal work, and maybe a small turbo. If he wants show mostly, throw a z6/y8 in it and than put as much as needed into body stuff, and use whatevers left over for bolt ons.

I agree b18c5 would be a great engine to drop in the 4thgen, but I can't bring myself to buy one (with his money) for the crazy prices that I find them for. I have my friends looking high and low for a blown one, but I'm beginning to believe that my motor was a rare find. Yet it's still early I'm shure they will come up with something. On the other hand I have access to b18c1's out the whazoo, Doubleoverhedcamron's b18c1 GSR is matched with my car In almost all aspects. Plus the c1 in our crx is pushing HP well over what my delsol or the gsr are pushing. So I think I may go with the c1 although I'm the c5's biggest fan.
I am currently in the process of bartering for a Y1 and LSD, so I'll keep you updated on how that goes. Keep the idea's coming guys.

yeah a b18c1 turbo would be killa. might be alittle over budget, but its worth the little extra money he might have to put in

Well, since he's only just going to be 16, I wouldn't put anything nearly as fast as a GSR or Type-R engine in the car... as wast said before, perhaps a SOHC VTEC engine with Si tranny... and then spend the rest on giving him some style, like lowering the car, getting some rims, maybe some nice seats, good sound system...
Besides, you have to think... when something else is made for or given to someone (especially a kid) by someone else, they don't respect it or care for it nearly as much as they should.

sorry i got to this one late hybrid
![]() first thing you should do is some good springs (coilovers if it snows) & strtuts. then get some strut bars. i agree. give that kid too much and he'll end up dead. you have to step him up. start with a built sohc vtec or zc. see how he does. then stick some turbo on it. from there decided if he could handle or even needs more. i know a zc 10 psi 178whp. thats a good start for any 16 yr old

B18A. I/H/E (All mid to high quality) LSD (Quaife or OEM), H&R coilovers, Sparco sprints, 15" Konig heliums with some sort of Yoko (Not H4's), Brake upgrade, front lip, S/T sway bar kit and an airfreshener.
Respectable straightliner, wicked handling ride for 7 G's. Cash left for N2O as well.....

thanks for the input I found a b18c1 for 700 bucks, that I think I can rework pretty easily. (Definitly needs internal work) but I was planning on that anyway. I'm really uneasy about building a 16 year old, an ungodly fast car for his first automotive. Howie tells me he is an excellent driver, but still I'm uneasy. I have many idea's for example I was thinking for a turbo of putting together a 360° bearing assemblie. I may just drop the b18c in with reworked internals(and see how he does), then upgrade from that. Then again that may be to much......... ![]() ps-coilover's sounds like a good place to start. |
