Question Which one is better?

I'm about to buy an intake for my car and I've been debating which one to get either Frankencar, Stillen (Stealin) or Weapon R.

Which one gives the most gains or is there any difference in hp/tq on either one?

Which one is louder or lower?

I've been leaning more towards the Frankencar based on things I've heard. I imagine the Stealin is more expensive and should I get the midpipe as well or velocity stack or Filter from K/N?

How about Injen and K&N which one of these are better and is either one better than Stillen, Frankencar or Weapon R?

Somebody please HBO!!!

Hey bk2, I know theres been a debate over the intakes, but I've had the Placeracing intake for over a year now and that thing is just sick. It has the perfect amount of power that you can feel and hear. its not too loud, but you definately want to watch out when 5 O is around. In my situation however, I also have the stillin exaust so you only hear the intake around 3000 rpm or greater. From 2000 to 2500rpm you hear exaust and after that its sweet music baby, nothin but pure, wholesome, sweet Music!!!

Thanks Max, I've been hearing a lot about the Placeracing Intakes as well too, I hear that they build specifically for Maxima and Nissan product line vehicles. I'll do a lil more research to see what they have to offer.

I figured that I'd just ask some of the fellaz & ladies on this forum, since I know most of us have some type of mods. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for the Placeracing Intake?

See my story is gonna be different from everyone elses, I am pretty much not patient when it comes to getting something for my car. After deciding wether I wanted the stillin or CAI, I decided PL CAI. I found out that they were based in Azusa out here in California. This was about an hour drive so I figured instead of waiting a few days to get my stuff, I'll just put the Max on the road. I ended up paying $240, which is about 25 dollars more than custommaxima.com

I then drove back to L.a and me and pops installed it, It took like a couple of hours to do but it was worth it.

I just ordered a PR Intake last Friday and it cost me $230 including shipping and it is arriving today from custommaxima.com. One reason I got the PR CAI is because I can use everything but the CAI downpipe to the front air dam and just use it as a Short Ram Intake until I get the time and ambition to cut a hole in the fenderwell.

This way, I can be lazy do a quick install for some immediate gains, and when summer rolls around, I can install the "Cold Air" part of the intake.

Hey MaxP and Maximus let me know if you notice any difference in the way your car responded when you first put the CAI/WAI on, because I'm trying to see if the CPU in the Max can really differentiate the additions of mods to the engine, intake or exhaust.

Max P you're in VA and Maximus is in LA; MaxP let me know if there's a difference the way your intake functions in the cold and Maximus let me know if there's a difference when the way yours operate in the warm air.

The only real way to know if there will be any real differences is to see both vehicles performance in both cold and hot temperatures.
I'm trying to figure out this learning ECU/CPU thing in the Max and see if it really works like the engineers said it does.

The interesting thing here is that when you do work on the car and disconnect the battery, the ECU gets reset and has to relearn driving habits again. I'm going to refrain from putting on the "cold Air" section until the weather gets warmer, but I'll let you know how it goes once I put the midpipe section on, I just need about an hour of daylight or so to do that and that won't happen till the weekend.

You're right again that ECU is just too damn smart for it's own good, when you disconnect the battery it acts as if you just sold the car brand new to someone else and it is going to take it's time to learn the new owner's driving habits.
I only had to disconnect the batteries once when I was adding my HID's and for a while my car did act kinda funny.

Everything is cool now and the Max is on the prowl again, just read the sig.

Ive noticed My Maxima's response is better than that of stock performance in the warm wheather, I'm not gonna say the performance is consistant because I just picked my girl up and it just stopped raining and my car feels bomb as hell. I mean i've noticed in cold weather the car just rips. In extreme hot weather, lets say around 80 degrees +, The car performs about 60 percent better than stock.

Let me go back about 20 years or so on this one, I believe the reason it performs better in the warm air than the cold is because the cold air is denser than the warm, therefore it takes the engine=(big air pump) longer to process it through.
Overall the cold air is better for the engine though due to the overall heatsoak factor. My car rips better in the cold, I guess due to the ECU being used to driving in these conditions, plus the cooling effect helps you gain more power.

You're right about the denser charge at cooler temperatures, but to the engine, pressure is pressure and it doesn't have to work harder to pull colder and denser air. In fact, it should make more power from it so long as the fuel system compensates with more fuel, otherwise they wouldn't intercool turbocharged or supercharged engines. Why people have seen downgraded performance in cold weather is a mystery to me, my only explanation would be that the intake temperatures would be outside the ECU's fuel mapping range and it reverts to a default "out-of-range" mapping.

This is pure speculation on my part though, I don't know if this actually happens or even how the values for the ingectors are mapped, computed, or interpolated. However, it seems like a logical explanation.

I got my CAI w/ K&N Filter from Ebay about a year ago and I still love it. I bought it for about $100 and It works perfectly.

jim wolf tech

Woo yeah jim wolf tech pop charger intake!
I just got the jwt intake and put it in - only 90 on sale at courtesynissan.com. I dunno how it ranks with the more expensive intakes, but could it really be that big of a difference? They all do the same thing.
And how do you put in clear corners?
