rebuilding heads need help

i'm currently rebuilding my head and need to know what is the cheapest performance setup to go with that is worth the trouble of putting it in. i am looking for quicker valve return, and just better performance to put it simple. I started rebuilding because my valve guides were leaking horribly, so when i start my car after it sits a while it smokes like a frieght train for at least a minute and a half. i'm strapped for cash and am only able to spend so much on my car at a time. I just figured since it needed to be done why not kick it up a notch while i'm at it so any help would be appreciated. thanx.

I don't really know the answer to your question, so sorry that I cannot help. But what are your valve guides leaking? Oil or fuel? I ask this because I have fuel in my oil, and can't figure out how fuel is mixing with my oil...

im pretty sure that valve guides leak oil from the oil that sits in the head. better valve return is not something to worry about, especially on your accord. the cam is not spinning fast enough, nor are is the grind aggressive enough for it to really be a problem. there are not a whole lot of things that would be worth spending money on in the f22 head. list your mods and we will see from there what you should think about spending money, if anything at all.

wagsaccordsir - the only times that fuel and oil are near each other are with the head gasket and the piston rings. with the head gasket, oil and coolant go to the fuel. with the piston rings, the fuel goes to the oil. try a compression test and see if that helps narrow down the problem for you.

Hey thanks for the info b16a3sol. We did do a compression test about a month and a half ago, and we had 230 across the board. Which to my understanding was really good. I dunno?? I'm still learning!! Peace

hey b16a3sol thanks for the info. so far all i have done is a 'toucan' cold air intake and 8 mil spark plug wires. I was looking into a 'jacobs ice' electronic ignition setup next for more programing options. with me only having a sngle cam its hard to find a lot of performance parts that i can afford. right now i am curently redoing my frontsuspension with slightly upgraded oem sstyle parts so my money is tied up for now. i'm also looking for an under drive pulley set and any other small mod i can do that allows extra hp without exceeding the $100-$200 range after doing some saving i plan on ripping out my a/c and putting a turbo in its place but that is further in the future. i almost forgot to mention that i recenlty added a tanabi adjustble cat-back exhaust system. without the silencer i've been pulled over twice in three weeks. (definitely not appealing to the boys in blue around here)

i say just fix the problems with your head, and leave it at that. there arent too many things that will give you any noticeable amount of power that can be done to that head. the f22 is hard to get power out of, especially with mods that cost around $100 or $200. most people just do I/H/E, then focus more on show than go for the accord, unless you do a motor swap.

wagsacccordsir - 230 sounds about right to me, so i cant really tell you where to go from there. how exactly did you determine that there is fuel in your oil, and how much is in there? are there any other symptoms from it?
