Nothing will fix my Heat
Hi everyone.
This is my first post, and my first Toyota truck. I really like the truck, a 91 pu with the 3.0 v6, but the heat does not work. The blower motor works on all speeds and the dampers move to the various settings. The temp gauge in the dash only goes about a 1/4 of the way up. I replaced the thermostat and the waterpump with no change. Water will flow through my heater core, so I don't think that is the problem. I have tried to "burp" it a couple times. I got some air out, but not much and with no change to the heat. I live in Minnesota so any help on how to properly burp it, or any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Todd |

Re: Nothing will fix my Heat
hey todd do u think your gage is correct??i mean if its only going up 1/4 i would think the water is'nt getting too hot.if thats the case i would suspect the thermostat.what temp.was the one u put in?? are u doing a 50/50 mix on anti-freeze. sorry i cant think of anything that u have'nt already done!!
good luck BTW are both heater hoses at heater core the same temp?? |

Re: Nothing will fix my Heat
I think it was a 90' stat and I am using 50/50 blend. The gauge in the dash only goes 1/4 up, but the hose coming of the top of the radiator, the radiator itself and the hoses by the firewall going in and out of the heater core are hot. Maybe I need that two stage t-stat I heard about when I searched the forum?

Re: Nothing will fix my Heat
always verify a thermostat's fucntionality by putting it a pot of water and bringit to temp bdfore putting it in, saves you alot of grief.
also, always replcae teh radiator cap with the 'stat. when you fill the radiator up, make it the highest point of the system(uauslly is, but if you have to jack up the front, so be it. start the motor cold with the cap open, and feel the upper hose, you should not feel any water passing through until the stat open then the hose will slowly get hot, when this happens, the radiator should go down, quite a bit, add 50/50 mix top off radiator and proper line on overflow tank. |

2 stage stat has nothing to do with your problem.

Re: Nothing will fix my Heat
Thanks everyone for the help, but I kinda hosed myself on this one. So the hot/cold lever not only adjusts the flow of the coolant in the engine compartment, but it also moves some sort of flap or damper under the dash. That cable had fell of its hook and was the reason my heat wasn't working. I now know everything about the cooling system in my truck though. Thanks again to everyone that posted.

Re: Nothing will fix my Heat
You beat me to it. There must be an epidemic of that going around.
and on a few more on other Toy BBS's.
