Best way to cut out back seat?
I'm building a 1970 AAR Cuda and would like to do a more "modern" interior by removing the rear seat and replace it with a different one I have. What is the best method for cutting out the original seats? Thanks!
Here's a few pics of what I'm trying to do. Pic of the stock seat: ![]() Pic of the SRT seat:

Re: Best way to cut out back seat?
Thanks for including good pics and description in your question.
I'd probably go about it with a jeweler's saw. ![]() You should be able to find one pretty easily in almost any hobby shop. They can be had with very thin blades, and used carefully allow for precise cutting.

Re: Best way to cut out back seat?
I've got a jeweler's saw and almost never use it. The very design makes is almost impossible to do what you are wanting to do with it.
I have cut out hundreds of those pesky molded in back seats to build the '50's and '60's vintage race cars (and am even old enough to have cut a lot of them out when those '60's kits were new, LOL) and I use a razor saw for most of it where there is room to use it and straight cuts to be made. You can get them in sizes up around an inch and a half that will do most jobs. But if you have a Dremel or like rotary tool then it's a snap to grind them out. Just start grinding from the outside of the interior bucket at the crease were you want to remove and the rear seat is out in a jiffy. |

Ah yes!
dremel rotary tool is the better option...more control than the saw & more precise. marc SGP

IMO MPWR's suggestion or alternatively photo etch saw blades will give you the best control and finest cut. A Dremel (while possible I am sure) is more than likely to produce results similar to using a chain saw (especially for someone who needed to ask how to do it in the first place which suggests that they don't have too much experience in this area)My

Re: Best way to cut out back seat?
I already used a dremel...I got a little impatient. Haha! It came out alright, but now I have some more fabricating to do, due to the lack of the right attachment. Shouldn't be too hard though. Thanks for all your replies!

Re: Best way to cut out back seat?
I was going to suggest that you just cut the sides and seat completely off of the bucket, and build a completely new interior. I'm sure you've seen enough scratch built interiors here on AF to get you some ideas on how to go about it. I'd start with a semi thick piece of styrene sheet, and trace the side of the bucket on to it, so you'll have the basic outline traced on so you can cut it out, and build it up from there. and if you are going to the extent of such a wild modification, and if you feel up to it, open the doors to show it off a bit....unless it's a 'verty then it'd be senseless.
