automatic locks on 2001 windstar

how can i disable the automatic door locks ? i never have children(who could fall out) in the van.when you get to 15 mph , the doors all lock,im thinking if i had a heart attack in the car or was trapped inside after an accident, nobody could get in to help me,also there are no keyholes on the right side of the van so if i pull into my driveway, walk around the van to get something out of the right side, the doors are locked and i have to go back to the drivers side to unlock them, its very irritating, if wife is not with me--she has the keyless entry button-im told an extra button for me is $70.guess im old fahioned but i think if you need to unlock a door there should be a keyhole to do it--duh.
also , im told not to remove the fuse that controls this function because other things might be on the same circuit.--help

Re: automatic locks on 2001 windstar

I know some don't like this feature but I have yet to figure that one out.. Or at least to by pass it.. Most cars today are adding this feature that are equipped with power door locks.. Good new on the your keyless entry remote Auto zone has them for around 28.00 - 30.00 bucks You can find them on ebay as well fairly price with reprogramming instructions that come with it as well.. The last I heard on this as far as bypassing was the dealer could do it for more than you may want to pay. The have to reprogram the PCM I think.. Also Batteries plus carry the remotes as well.. If you ever have an issue with the door locks not working I have a post to add a new universal actuator. For around 14-16 bucks which is better than the 156.00 bucks the dealer charges for the actuator and that is with out them installing it.. Hope this helps.. Gary

The procedure is described in the owners manual, however it did not work for me. From what I understand if it doesn't work you have to have the dealer do it for, a cost of course. Down side is that if you ever replace or disconnect your battery it will revert back. I've decided to live with it. But try the procedure, maybe it will work for you.

Re: automatic locks on 2001 windstar

I had my door locks disabled through my local dealer. They charged me a half an hour for labor. I looked in my owners manual and there wasn't any info there. They have to disable the locks electronically. That was over a year a go and I have disconnected my battery a few times and It doesn't effect the lock setting....Hope this helps....

It's amazing the crap I remember...... Gary, even you posted in that thread.

When I mention keyless entry in that thread, it means the number panel on the driver's door, not the remote keyfob on your keychain.
