How do you turnn off Automatic Lock Feature '00

Hi,
I have a 00 Windstar and am wondering how to turn off the automatic
lock feature? It locks when put in gear.
We are always forgetting to unlock it when we get out and have to open the front door hit and hit unlock to open the side doors.
HELP PLEASE!!!
I want to disarm this thing.

I've got a '99 and would also like to be able to disable that function at will. I've seen some posts on here about how to disable and have followed the instructions without any success. My owners manual says I have to go to the dealer and have them do it for me. What a crock!! My brother has a Dodge Caravan and he is able to do and undo this feature all by himself. What gives, are Ford owners to stupid or not qualified for this sort of minor programming? Maybe Ford just wants more mulla and decided this is one way of getting it. I've had Fords all my life and don't normally bad mouth them, but this really sucks if I can't indeed undo and do this myself.

This is from my '01's owners manual. You must have keyless entry to do it.....
Quote:
Activating/deactivating autolock with the keyless entry system
Before following the activation or deactivation procedures, make sure
that the anti-theft system (if equipped) is not armed, ignition is off, and
all vehicle doors and liftgate window are closed.
1. Enter 5 digit entry code
2. Press and hold 7/8 control
3. Press and release 3/4 control while holding 7/8 control
4. Release 7/8 control.
The horn will chirp once if autolock was deactivated or twice (one short
and one long chirp) if autolock was activated.
To re-activate autolock, repeat steps 1–4.

Must be something they added after '99. No mention of it in my manual and I don't have the keyless entry anyway. Guess I'm just SOL

I don't have keyless entry either.
There is no alarm on my van, just a security on the key and that crazy re-lock feature.

PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!!

I don't want to go to the dealer.

Well just got done doing a study on the locking system on the 2001 may differ but not by much. running to the locking system are red, black, blue and a multi colored wire.. If you can trace the right wire back to the lock mod you could clip the master that controls the auto lock feature.. IF you do this be prepared to splice the wrong one back together. On a 2001 there are 2 questionable wires multicolor wire and the black one. The blue and red control unlock and lock..so I think one of those will 2 should do the trick.. keep in mind if you can get to the master wire you want have to do all the doors not unless the front wire will incompletes the circuit to the rear. I do think the muti color wire may be the one that controls the auto lock.. Or disable the locks all together.. Give me some time and I will try this myself dont want angry replies back.. but if you got time try it, all you have to do is splice back together.. if it does not work.. I will be working on the drivers door lock sometime soon so i may try this out for my self.. would be nice to add a togle switch to reactivate when wanted though.. hmmmmmmmmmmm : even more thinking???????

Hey!, good thinking Gary. I had that very same idea some time back, but do to lack of time and not having a wiring diagram it kind of fell by the wayside. I also thought having a toggle would be very convenient to switch back and forth at will. I live in a rural area where the auto lock isn't really needed. I do think it is a good thing while visiting or passing through large cities especially if you're unfamiliar and might get tangled up in a district where no civilized person should be. Would appreciate your sharing any information you might gather up in your quest to make this a possibility. There's more than one way to skin a cat, eh?

I do understand the other post on why they would disarm this feature.
I would not do it seeing on how my wife drives the van most of the time.
With carjacking a new bold crime.. I will keep this feature on our van..
I do like trying things out though so when I put the other actuator on my drivers side I will try to find the correct wire that disarms this auto lock feature..I just thought if you clip the wire, just as easy to add a toggle to re- arm it when you like or if you sale the van later. As for the wiring diagrahms the haynes manuel shows the wrong colors. So my first atempt with the universal actuator was trial and error.. will post back on what I find later.. Gary

My wife's 00 SEL has the keyless entry feature but the FOB does not have the number entry feature as given for 01 model. I am very interested in Gary's result.
