need your opinions please!!! (MB S600 coupe)

i've been looking at this kit for at least 2 months now and i can't decide if i should buy it or not. the kit is an Benz S600 coupe from tamiya and they are selling it for a reasonable price. to all who had made this kit; what are your opinions? did you encounter any problems while in the process of building it? would you recommend it?

thank you in advance

Alex

Hello,

I built this kit. No problems whatsoever. Typical Tamiya. Nicely detailed too, with full engine, chassis, interior detail. Has a glass roof too. I actually built it in 1993 and decided a year ago to restore it (plus I wanted to change the color), so now I am back to bare bones plastic. Before it had a Black Opal exterior (dark blue with a hint of green) and blue interior. I am actually going to paint it Black Opal again, but this time put in a beige interior.

I recommend it. Its certainly not the prettiest Mercedes, but its a nice model kit nonetheless.

I got it some time ago as well for reasons:
a: it's a Benz!!
b: Tamiya with full engine detail etc like BVC500 described.

So yes, buy it I'd say.

Guido

haha. I love Mercedes, almost every car they produce, but Bruno Sacco (Mercedes design chief at the time) didn't produce an especially enduring design with S600 coupe. Now, the current CL600 is awesome and I will Tamiya would produce that (maybe a CL55 AMG version) and an SL55 AMG!

thanks guys for that push of confidence hehehe! but another question that i have is; is it easy to put chrome on the window frames and around the bumpers? that's a big part of why i'm somewhat hesitant to buy it.

don't know about that though, cuz IMO the new benzes are somewhat losing that arrogance stance of the previous models. IMO the new ones look more chicky, but don't mind the AMG ones.

The chrome on the window trim and front and rear bumpers isn't too bad to apply since their is molded guides. Only the chrome on the side panels is hard to apply because of a lack of a molded guide. I've tried to cut chrome bare metal foil in very thin strips and applied it with reasonable sucess.

Thumbs up It's a fantastic kit

I built the model about 6 or 8 years ago, and it is fantastic. It goes together superbly, and details out like a real car. The V12 engine is to die for. You can fit the entire engine together w/o glue it is so precisely molded. The trim isn't hard to detail.

I bought the foil separately. ZoomZoomMX-5 has won awards for his S600 (best paint if I remember correctly-beautiful job!). One thing I really liked about this kit was the fact that the wheels are correct for the car. When Tamiya came out with the 600SEL, they put on ugly European style wheels, just like they did with the BMW Z3. When the S600 coupe came out, I ordered the wheel parts separately and put them on my two 600SELs.

it is a great kit, lots of detail. The most interesting part in this car is the wood panels (WHOAAA it's veru detail).
I have the s600 coupe amg and it is painted metallic black. It's a very nice car.
BTW looks like zoomzoom did a great job there.
