Supercharged 3800 maintainence

I just purchased a '98 Regal with 148k miles. Wanting to know some good upkeep procedures or common problems I could prevent now by doing some maintainence.

I'm going to change the tranny fluid for sure as i've read a little about those issues. Anything else major I should worry about? I have the supercharged version

Re: Supercharged 3800 maintainence

Since the prior maintenance history is unknown doing a pan drop on the tranny would be a good idea. ATF (Dextron-III) and screen filter only. With your mileage do not do a flush. Also, basic tune up items like air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, ignition wires. Try to stick withe the OEM AC Delco double platinum (41-921) or iridium (41-101) spark plugs and AC Delco Premium Silicone 7mm ignition wires. Other suitable plugs are the NGK TR55IX iridium and Autolite double platinum APP606.

On the supercharger check for any noises like rattling which would indicate it has a bad coupler. The supercharger oil should be checked (level) or replaced when you get a chance. The snout has an inspection plug where you check level and can remove the old supercharger oil. You will need two bottles of GM supercharger oil PN:12345982. We have a tech procedure.

Also, check for any oil leaks from the valve covers gaskets, oil pan gasket and rear main seal.

Another good PM service is clean the throttle body with carb or throttle body spray cleaner. Be sure to get the input screen and MAF sensor too. Use only electrical contact or MAF spray cleaner on th MAF wire element. Since the TB gets alot of carbon which could affect the idle you can remove and clean the idle air controller (IAC). Clean the pintle and lube with silicone spray. Make sure you get the IAC seat where it mounts to the throttle body.

These are just my recommendations for now and there are other areas or possible issues to look at.
