Revell 1/24 Shelby Cobra 1973

I started this build in December 2006 and it's my first model. I have painted chassis, rims, interior and body.
I also modified the trunk so that it can open and chopped out the engine vents.

Engine and engine vents:

Trunk cut out (pic was taken with phone):

My first paint job and silver stripes:

Fire extinguisher is made out of remains of the plastic molds:

This is what interior looked like at first and now:

I recorded a small demo of LED.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...06136856587007

But then I made a mistake with minor PJ "repairs" and blew up the PJ.

I had to grind off the color because I have putty on the trunk and brake oil would make it come off.

This is how my Cobra looks like now (primed with gray primer):

I bought myself a new Cobra kit, because the old one (open trunk) needs too much work and I don't have the
time. I have to finish the new one 'till Nov 17th - that's the day of national championship of Slovenian modelers.

This is what I've done so far:

Cobra's color [X-5 : 4 + X-31 : 1 + X-20 : 3] :

Tamiya's lacquer TS-13.

Before:

After:

I also cut the decals on the panels:

Minor details:

And yesterday I applied the last Cobra's label!!!

I have to paint white the green parts around the vent,...

Thank's for watching!

This is a great start for any model. Hard to believe it's your first with all your quality work. The livery is excellent, great work.

Re: Revell 1/24 Shelby Cobra 1973 (update 7.11.)

Well, I've made two models since the messed paintjob on the first Cobra:

Protar 1/9 Ducati 916: http://www.spc.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4939

Revell 1/25 Dodge SRT-10: http://www.spc.org.uk/forum/viewtopi...ighlight=srt10

Here's the deal - I'm going to use the completed chassy from the old one and the green body with the new black
interior. I'm going to build in the fire extinguisher from the old one and that's about it for the details of the interior.
I'll also try to detail the engine as much as I'm able to.

Re: Revell 1/24 Shelby Cobra 1973 (update 7.11.)

I sprayed the body with TS13, assembled the PE seatbelts and fixed the fire extinguisher.

I also painted the rims with X-5 and dryfitted everything.

I'll spray the body with at least two wet coats of TS13 or four dry coats so thah I won't have to worry about sanding
the body color.

Looks great, some modellers take years to get a finish as good as that, i'm looking forward to the Fujimi version i have of the Cobra i have to build, good luck in the contest.

Re: Revell 1/24 Shelby Cobra 1973 (update 7.11.)

I thank you for the kind words, Geoff!

I managed to spend some time on Cobra, so here are the results:

Could anyone please help me with wiring of the engine? I have a lot pics of different engine bays, but I don't
know where do this things in green areas lead cables to...

I found a lot of Chevvy Big Block manuals, but I don't want to buy one for one model. :-?

Thanks!

Re: Revell 1/24 Shelby Cobra 1973 (update 7.11.)

I'm finally finishing this build after a big problem. While I was sanding lacquered body with P8000,
I sanded through the hardened layer of lacquer and made a hole in the paint because it wasn't completely
dried. The problem occured in the part between the hood and embossement on the right side of car (hollow
on the right side).

The yellow cylinder represents gasoline filter. :-?

Re: Revell 1/24 Shelby Cobra 1973 (update 7.11.)

Looks very good, I am impressed. Might I suggest taking a look at some Ford FE motors like the 352, 360, 390, and 427 in some other cars such as mustangs, t-birds, cougars, and so on of the late 60's and early 70's. I see some discrepancies that to the un-trained eye don't matter, but I'm a Ford FE fan, and noticed them. I'd no big deal, but it may count if you enter it in a contest, who knows. It still looks great!

Re: Revell 1/24 Shelby Cobra 1973 (update 7.11.)

Hello!

Thanks for the suggestion, rsxse240, but I don't have the time to do that. I'll try harder on my '67 Stingray,
which also uses a V8 engine.

Tomorrow is the day of the national championship in Slovenia and I still have to prime and paint the exhausts
white. There was also a small bubble on the right side of hood's vent (looking at it from the front),
so I removed it and painted the area with X-2 (white). Today in the afternoon I'll spray a layer of
lacquer over it and hope for the best.

This is how it looks ATM:

...and thanks for watching! opcorn:
