What Oil to Use?
I Have a 1995 Regal GS with a 3800. The first motor blew at 100,560 the day after i got the car. I had a motor from a 95 Lesabre put in that motor had 67,000. The motor is makes noise(bearings? they say lifters) for the first 15-25 seconds when started cold. I had it looked at by a couple of people they say that it is loose tolerances in the motor on some years and is perfectly normal. the motor has about 75,000 miles on it now I have been useing a synthetic blend high milage oil and filter. should i use full synthetic. what do you use? any recommedations or opions? Is that nosie normal? they car runs awsome, plenty of power. I have put 8000 on the new motor.

Re: What Oil to Use?
Stay with what you are using now. You are not doing anything wrong using the synthetic blend especially if it is the high mileage oil. This will condition the seals and help with some of the noise. Stick with the manufacturers oil weight recommendation. A heavier weight oil may help with the noise but may cause other problems.

As for synthetic, I believe it is in fact better, but how much better is the question, especially considering the huge increase in costs. Now that your car has significant wear, it may not be worth it to now switch to synthetic, as this article suggests: http://searchwarp.com/swa7388.htm |
