94-98 Mustang O'Dell Studios style

Sorry for the copy/paste but this is my description from Deviantart, see my website in a couple days for more. OK from the beginning - I've had the idea for years to modify the 94-98 body Mustang. There really was only one reason, maybe two, for doing this. Most importantly, the dimensions of the car are good imo. Unlike many newer cars (not Mustangs necessarily), the 94 bodies didn't look over weight and there was at least a little car sticking out ahead of the front tire and behind the rear tire. The fact that early on they were still available with the 5.0 helps and the aftermarket is huge etc. So the idea was, mod the body slightly to give it old school lines and it would be a much better looking car. Then the 05 came out and my ideas started coming together. I wanted to base it on the 65/66 body and I wanted to do a Shelby-ish looking edition. The idea being that this could be a one-off done in the garage. I started sketching not wanting to create a body kit but not wanting to change the entire car. Turns out I didn't like the first drawing at all. The head lights and grille provide very little basis for something killer. Anyway, I seriously could write on and on about this car and I might on my website when I post it but yeah, I changed every single body panel on the car except maybe the square that makes the roof. It would take significant funds most likely and mad skills but I do think this could become a one-off car. To create the 65/66 body lines I would just make additions to the existing fenders, a new hood, and trunk lid would be fabricated and that's the easy stuff. The front and rear valances would be scratch made also, though the lower front could be done if you were good with fiberglass, just not the grille area. That weird crease running down the side of the car would have to go. 94-98s already looked like fast backs but they needed the little side window to get the 65/66 look - pretty doable I think. I reworked and reworked the rear end until finally choosing to scratch the whole thing and make it nearly all old school in looks. It would even get a bumper in body color or chrome. New headlights that they offer in after market for 05 bodies, Raceline GT wheels (if I was Ford producing this car these would be GT 350 only) that look kinda Shelby Cobra but still modern. I would make new Mach 1 wheels available also. Old school mirrors ... and the list goes on and on - maybe a NA but stroked 5.0.

Anyway, this started to turn toward, "what would happen if retro design was happening in 1994?" more than a one-off situation. What if Ford built this car? That gave me some freedom to get crazy and here we are. I even have a marketing plan kinda but like I said, I could go on and on. The problem is the handful of 07 goodies I'd want on the car that you see here. Sorry about the water mark but I think this needs it.

I like your method and overall finish, but i am not a big fan of the design idea.

Good work, i hope to see more soon!

by classic you mean the first gen cars or the 94-98? Because it's not a redesign of the first gen car, it's a redesign of the horrid 94-98 Mustang which isn't classic in my eyes and never will be. The "classic" Mustang can never be improved upon in a "redesign" sense of the word imo, so I've tried to take highlights from that time period and apply them to an ugly car with a good name.

Not quite, they're a direct copy of almost the entire car, but stuck in photoshop and contorted to fit over the 300 chasis. It's a good enough looking car but it will never be what the original was and for that reason should never have been made. Dodge doesn't have a clue what to build and the Charger and Challenger are perfect examples of why that is true. The Mustang, ONCE AGAIN, just like the 60s, is light years ahead of the rest of the pack and both Dodge and Chevy are racing to catch up in a modern "muscle car war" that'll be over by the time the Challenger and Camaro hit the street. The hype around the Camaro has already killed it a little imo, because everyone knows what it looks like and we've already seen it in the movies so who cares? And the Challenger, a tiny percent of who will be buying them even remembers the original Challenger and the rest don't have a clue. I'm not saying this is a fact but it happened with the Charger, a far more popular muscle car in its day and a stronger following throughout the years. People don't care about the original, because the guys who know anything about them aren't buying these cars or at least not very many compaired to a younger crowd. At least the Challenger isn't being made to run in NASCAR like the Charger. But the Mustang has had since day one a huge following with the crowd it was aimed at and always has, (except maybe in the mid 70s ..... since it's been around so long the aftermarket is huge and covers a wide spectrum of young buyers and older buyers alike. It's good on the strip, on the road course and on the street. The Charger got a little aftermarket behind it but it wasn't for people who remember what the Charger really was that's for sure and the Challenger will be no different. It has no tuner appeal but it looks like a muscle car kinda, so some of the older guys will buy into it. My guess is that it goes away in a few years tops because unlike Ford, Dodge has to have two seperate cars to TRY to appeal to everyone plus build an aftermarket. I just don't see it working out. For many of the same reasons the Mustang has made it through the years, I think the Camaro will do fine enough even if it is a little fancy looking right now. I'm sure these cars will grow on me once they're out and we get to see the Challenger in something OTHER than orange with black stripes and after a couple model years we'll have a better idea of what's up with them. I already like the Camaro well enough but since the Challenger is my absolute favorite muscle car I'm more likely to be turned off by the new one I guess.

Re: 94-98 Mustang O'Dell Studios style

yeah, youve taken a car which is a version of something good, and made it look a little more like the old one. basically, i like the old mustangs more than your design or the actual for people's design

yeah that pretty much sums it up. and i also like the old cars better but I'm not sure what you're saying with "or the actual for people's design" .... this was just something stuck in my brain for years and after all that time this is how it came out ... obvious concept influence from the 05 that I wouldn't have had years ago.
