70 Challenger Custom TA style 1:24
There is a WIP thread but it doesn't show much other than give some background. I'm having trouble making the side exhaust the way I like it so that might wait or never happen.

Very nice. That's one heck of a shine you have there, what paint are you using?

Looks really nice! I really love the stock T/A stripes. I didnt think I would like painted on stripes, but I think I like yours just as much as the stock ones!
Great job!!!! |

Re: 70 Challenger Custom TA style 1:24
whoa! thanks everybody. i'm just shooting dupli color rattle cans on my cars. the pics tell a few lies of course and i have trouble with swirls especially in black paint. i put on about 4 coats of primer, 3 paint, 4 clear, sand with 1500 grit and then 2000. i tried rubbing compound which works faster before going to scratch x but there doesn't seem to be that much benifit so i do the whole polishing with scratch x. i'd like even finer sand paper and finer polishing stuff but this works ok for a cheapo like myself. you can see my stripes aren't perfect on that one side ... i didn't follow the body lines just right but i did them by guess, just eye balling the thing as i went. i'm gonna try scotch tape the next time i do something like this cause the paper tape just doesn't cut it on line quality.

Re: 70 Challenger Custom TA style 1:24
That car is ROCKIN'!!!!!! The stance is perfect and good job with the paint. I like your photography skills too.....
If I may offer some assistance with the paint polishing...... what type of clear are you using? Get yourself some automotive urethane, if you haven't already...... you can polish the "S" out of it and not burn through. Start with a little finer grit sand paper. I start with 2400. I find that 1000-1500 leaves scratches a little too deep on a model. 1:1 cars no problem, but not a 1:24th scale model. Starting with the 2400, just work your way up to 12000.... you can pick up a polishing kit with either sanding pads or cloths for under $30. If you keep them clean and dry after use, they should last a good long while. Then you can polish the rest out with 3M compund followed by Scratch X.... this is how I work it. I was taught this method by the masters...... Dave T., Clay Kemp, & Brian Fascia.... I'm sure you've seen their work. It's nothing short of incredible!! If you haven't, go over to the WIP section and check out their stuff..... |
