Problems with P1810

As I read on this forum (from a Buick and this particular car)... P1810 means that my PCS' is clogged or something. Causing my car to shift hard, a whine noise under any RPM condition (drive, reverse, neutral) and the SES/CEL on. The problem is... that code didn't show up until a few days ago, and this problem wasn't that recurrent. Now the car does it everytime... and it started doing it since I bought it in febrary... but on weekly basis, not daily like now.

Now, as I read on this forum... the AC Delco part #10478146 it's the solution, but won't save from having to deal with it again. I want to know if there's any other solution... how difficult it's to try and do it myself (with a friend with experience on manual transmissions). Also, what it's TAPS? It's kind of like how the transmission calibrates itself? Or I have to do something about it?

And lastly... I'll try to pour Trans X, Lubegard or Sea Foam... do you think I still have a chance? Thanks in advance! Cheers!

Re: Problems with P1810

Sorry to hear that but it does happen. The PCS solenoid is a common problem. But normally you get a P1811 DTC. But when DTC P1810 or P1811 sets it causes shift adapts (TAPS) to disable and commands maximum line pressure so you get the harsh shifting and whining. P1810 is Automatic Transmission Fluid Pressure Manual Valve Position Switch Circuit Malfunction. It could be the PCS or another problem.

Try the tranny additives for now. You have nothing to lose.
