Exclamation 98 Civic EX swap to H22

I have a 98" Civic EX. I'm lookin to do a Frankenstine swap and put an H22 in her. I'm lookin for some tips, comments, suggestions on how to make the swap less pain staking. I'll be gettin the engine up from Japan. Comes with trans, clutch, ECU. I know there's a bolt in engine mount kit for it I just can't remember the company who does it.
Thanx

If this is your everyday car that you want to swap engines then have fun hitching a ride when it breaks down when you really need a ride.

dont listen to that guy. its all good. you want it less painstaking then take it to a shop and let them do it. try look on www.hasport.com you could also ask them questions about your swap if your doing it yourself

Its only practacle to say that if you use your everday car as a race car then it requires higher maintence and IF it should break down then like I said before have fun hitching a ride unless you pay to rent a car or taxi.

Oh i i know its possible plus i know people that had it done personally also the fastest Civic in the NHRA has the H22 for an engine. Its just if your going to use a H22 in your everyday car then have fun keeping up with the high maintence just to get your thrill for speed.

Remember you can only go as fast as the person in front of you.

Even though it sounds nice the H22 swap into a Civic will not be a great handler. It is know that the heavier engine will make the car understeer even more.

You shouldn't run into relliablility problems, but handling will definitely suffer.

siracer..i totally understand what ur say'n and where ur coming from..
handle'n will suffer but not to an extreme point.. the car will still be drivable and able to take corners,(just not able to be pushed to the limits)..rally racing the car will plow all the way,but normal conditions the ride will be fine and the swap is do-able..maintence won't be anymore than any other honda motor..provided engine is good doner..

True that "maintence won't be anymore than any other honda motor..provided engine is good doner.." But, whats the Main reason why we are doing a swap? If it's not for speed then what else? Surely your not going to use the Handa for hauling.

If speeding a vehicle is not the highest factor which puts soo much wear and tear on an engine then I don't know what is. In this case your putting a larger engine into a small economy car for what reason?

contrary to popular belief, the h22a does not add as much weight as people like to think. it only add about 100 pounds. yes steering will suffer but people like to exaggerate how much steering you will lose.
dont forget to raise your car about an 1" higher than the back to offset the weight of the engine

Ill make this simple to understand.

If you use the engine for average use then it wont be a maintence problem but, if you run the hell out of it then it will. What I said in the first place was your going to have high maintence issues with the H22 because why else would you take out a small engine and put in its place a larger engine? There is no reason to switch engines in this small car if your doing regular driving unless you are wanting to race. Seeing that your going to pay a bit of money to buy and install the engine then I'm sure your not going to go through all this hastle to just drive the car regularly with one of the largest engines Honda has to offer for street use.

I also said that you should instead have an extra car to just race with instead of using your everyday car cause if your car breaks down then your shit out of luck. My opinion would be that instead of buying the H22 just to clear 14 seconds without modding anything else, I would buy a used RWD mustang or the sort at 5k or better and mod it to clear 10 seconds at a Lower price then it would take to Clear 10 seconds with a Civic modded. I've yet to see a street legal FWD Civic able to clear 10 seconds.

Personaly after thinking alot through I see the Civic being a great car in the AutoX which is something I commend CivicSiRacer's ability. Its a small car with great pick up and turning ratio. Id still try a Golf hehe. Even in the AutoX its not worth using a H22 in a Civic cause your not even going to use the full potential of what it can do since your mainly stopping and going throughout the whole process. Plus like what civickiller said your adding 100 extra pounds which is not good.

Red face DUUHHH

Only a retard would swap to a heavier engine without doing a full sus pension upgrade. Have you read the article on the street legal 11.07 Civic, ohh yeah its an everyday driver now yes the reason I want the bigger engine is for speed now as for maintance I got that covered plus if you beat on any engine its gonna need maintance but if you no what your doin you should be alright i'm amsuming influenza doesn't work on his own car so this is why hes so worried about $ and maintance .
