injector size and tune

Thanks to everyone who replied my last post...i made a new one since i had some different questions. I'm putting in a 20g turbo and was thinking about getting 680cc injectors...is there something that would be more fitting?

Also, I know you have to tune for optimum performance from the turbo//injectors but is it mandatory that i tune the car right away after i add these mods? I was thinking about adding the turbo//injector and leave tuning off for a week or so and only use the car to drive to work....or is that not a good idea? thanks

Re: injector size and tune

What car are we talkin about? Im getting confused with all of these different questions. But yes you will probably have to do a little tuning at least. The ecu is going to think you still have stock injectors and will be injecting way to much fuel. What are you tuning with?

Re: injector size and tune

lmao o yea I remember now. I have never used dsmlink, I guess its already hook up in your car? Your going to have to do a little tuning at the very least. Im sure someone else can tell you more about what you need to do exactly.

Re: injector size and tune

This could have gone in the other thread, but its ok that it didnt.

My new best friend the search button found some interesting things for you... check out this thread to find how much air a 20g will flow.
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...hlight=airflow

Now cross reference that number with the table in this thread... remember, you should stay at or below 85% IDC if you can.
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=676215

And bam! you just found out what size injector should be mated with your turbo AND what a good tool the seach button is.

Re: injector size and tune

thank you guys lol sorry but one Last question about this and i'm done. If I install JUST the 20g turbo without the bigger injectors yet and run it on low boost (the lowest it will go) and not abuse it do i still need to tune it right away? i was thinkin about just drivin it to work and home for a couple weeks like that if it is safe.

Re: injector size and tune

No, you cannot add bigger injectors without a tuning device to compensate for them.

Re: injector size and tune

If you put 680's in there your car will run like crap. Put the 20G and lowboost with the stock 450's. When you are ready for tunning, put the 680's in and tune it. Otherwise you will run into problems. Everyones wants to put big injectors and turbo and turn up the boost to maximum and race Ferraris but its just not that simple sometimes. Be patient and take care of your car the right way.

Re: injector size and tune

If you do put the 20g, I wold warn against boosting. Why cant you just buy it and stick in the closet for a couple weeks until you can get DSMlink and the injectors (680's are a bit undersized by the way)?

I can get a deal on the turbo here but i won't have enough money for the injectors and tuneing untill i get to colorado...thats my problem =(

Re: injector size and tune

So my plan is... stick the 20g in there since my 16g is about to go to crap, put the boost as lowest it will go, drive to my new home state, stick in the 750cc injectors // 255 lph walbro + the FMIC + the DSMLink tune. my plan sound ok? anything else i'm missing? it would suck if my car went to crap with my budget...lol =(

Re: injector size and tune

If you throw the 20g in and don't boost it high you should be ok to make the trip. What kind of 20g are you getting. SBR 20g, bastard 20g etc. Just watch out for boost creep, even with my mbc set at 10psi on my 16g, by redline I was at 19-20 psi. Staying away from any WOT pulls is a must.
