1992 BMW 318is Question

I've been looking at a BMW 318is but on the back is a M/// ....just like the m3 but with out the number, can anyone explain what this means to me ,if anything? (i havnt test drove it yet)

It is most likely not a M3, you can get these M badges, or any other kind of badges for bimmers from most any tuning catalog. the previous owner most likely did this and put it on his car. if the car says it is a 318iS then that is what it most likely is, i believe the 92 318 was a E36 which probably had the m30 engine in it, but i am not sure so do not take my worrd on it

the E30 m3 was a inline multivalve 4 cylinder, 2.7L i believe, and E36 M3 was a inline 6.

Pop the hood, if it doesn't say M-POWER on the engine then it's not an M3. Very simple

FYI the e30 m3 was a I6 as well im pretty sure it was a 3.2 but could be wrong on the size, im positive it wasnt a 4 cyl

The E30 M3s were 4cylinder, with the S14 engine. No 6 cyl production E30 M3 was ever made.

the e30 m3 engine was a 2.7 litre 4cyl not a 3.2 inline six, that engine is in the e36 and e46

ACTUALLY the e30 M3 engine is a 2.3 liter il4. the e30 M3 EVO is a 2.5liter il4
