Hi all. This is my first post so please bear with me. I am an american service member presently in the middle east. Before I came over here, I bought a new '03 Lancer OZ. I was contemplating getting an Injen intake when I get back, but is there a big difference between the short intake with the heat sheild and the CAI? Also, does anyone know where I can get a decent exhaust ( cat-back systems would be fine ).

BTW, there is a thing on ebay where a company ( LPI ) is selling a straight pipe to bolt in, in place of the cat. They claim a gain of 8 HP. Has anyone heard of this? They say it has the O2 sensor fitting so you can just bolt on and go.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Junior.

A small word of warning to you. The Injen instake is nice and it will make your car feel like it has a bit more torque, but there have been some quality issues with them. I don't want to bad talk Injen, because I think they happen to be a great company, but there have been some broken intakes due mostly to excessive vibration it seems.

The forked part of my mount broke leaving it functioning but rattling and, in another case the weld attaching the mount to the piping ripped a hole approx. 2" in diameter out from the pipe creating complete vaccuum loss. I'll attach pics if I can find em.

Gains from bolt-ons won't make a huge difference so the choice between short ram and CAI isn't huge. I think you can trust me on this one because I've run both. (Since my piping's broken I'm running a short ram for the time being while I talk to Injen about replacement)

And the setup I'm running now... (Ugly, I know...I'll fix it eventually.)

EDIT: Road Race Motorsports also sells a "test pipe", but I doubt those HP claims are off a stock engine. We have two catalytic converters. I doubt removing just the second would result in an 8hp gain when exhaust still has to flow through the first cat.

EDIT (again): I forgot the whole purpose of this post was to tell you that if you buy the injen you should put a small bushing underneat the forked mount to minimized vibrations and avoid having what happened to me happening to you. AEM also makes a CAI for only slightly more than Injen's too if you're uncertain of quality, but short rams are comparable, and cheaper. If you don't plan on going past bolt-ons you may as well go with the CAI and get the extra couple of ponies.
