Re: 98 buick regal wont start

Possible since it is a common failure item. Does it not start in neutral and park? Also, you can check the 12 volts at the starter solenoid "S" terminal when ignition is set to start.

Re: 98 buick regal wont start

i tried that, it will not start when in neutral, i did hear a faint hissing noise whenever i turn the key but then it goes away, we checked the ignition fuse but could there be others that could be a problem, i see several fuses related to the ignition in my owners manual

Re: 98 buick regal wont start

Are you saying the starter does not engage to turn the engine over or does the car crank over but not start?

the starter does not engage to turn the engine over, nothing at all happens except the dash lights come on like they usually do but nothing else, no clicking sound, nada, i still have full power to the car though

Re: 98 buick regal wont start

will it jump start? Check the battery (under a load test) and all connections at the battery. If the battery is weak, or the terminals are loose or corroded, it can allow low amp current through to run the lights, radio, etc..., but not the high amp current necessary to allow the starter to turn over.

Did you test for voltage at the "s" terminal on the starter solenoid when the key is in the start position as Bnaylor suggested?
