2003 montana air suspension
I recently picked up a 2003 monata ext, it has the rear air ride on it.
The compressor seems to run almost all the time and seems to be venting while it is running. Went to the place I got it and talked to the mechanic, he checked it and he says the shocks seem to have preasure in them but is going to call his friends at a GM dealer to see if this is normal. Sitting in the van waiting for my kid to come out of work it ran for 2 minutes with key in acc position, turn it off then on and within 30 seconds it did it again, let it run a few minutes and again within turning the key back on it started back up, so tried turning it off again and let it run for just over 5 minutes before it shut off. Today dropped the wife off and sat in the van listening to the radio, the thing ran for 1 minute then shut off for about a minute, and it went on like this till I left about 7 or 8 minutes later. Stopped to get gas and attentant says I got a leaky in the tire, yup you guessed it the damn thing was running again and venting at the same time. Is there a spot in the sensor under this thing that would make it pump and vent at the same time? Can I adjust this, if the van rides a little higher thats ok with me. Thanks |

Is it moving freely? Mine was bound up with rust at each pivot point. One of the plastic connectors finally broke off and the compressor was running 'free' depending on position of the leveler arm (up or down). |

Re: 2003 montana air suspension
Ok thanks for the reply, I will have to check that, the thing that bothers me is that while the compressor is running, and as far as I can tell its not running all the time but quite often, too oftern I think. But when it is running it also seems to be venting preasure.

Re: 2003 montana air suspension
Check all your hoses and connections under the van. I've seen a bunch where the hose became disconnected or had a hole in it from a cut due to age, or being damaged somehow.

Re: 2003 montana air suspension
Well I did take the van back where I got it and the compressor did go off while I was there, but by the time the mechanic got under it to see what was up it had stopped and no matter what I did the thing would not come on again.
Well friday it cam on again while I was in the driveway, got under it and found the leak. Seems there is a plastic clip that it clips onto on the drivers side after it comes from the pump under the frame heading over to the pasenger side. The hose was no longer in the clip and the clip looked burned. Well about where the clip was burned is where the leak was in the hose if it was cliped into it. Went to canadian tire and picked up a double end compression union, cut out the leak and stuck it in there then used a tie wrap to secure it to the clip that was there. Looked around and found out why it was burned. Seems this van had a trailer hitch on it and they used a torch to remove the bolts that held it on. |
