Depending on the type of turbos you are using, u'll get diff. results.

For example.

Supra TT: (Not really TT. more like sequential turbos)
The supra consist of one small turbo and a bigger turbo. The smaller turbo is use for the low end, so u can get off the line quick and midway thru the power band, the bigger turbo kicks in and creates a powerful top end. Almost lag free.

1 turbo setup...let's use a T78 and T88. The reason why people usually do a single turbo conversion into a T78 or T88 turbo is because of the powerful top end power. Has a bit of a lag, but the top end is crazy and will last long enough to spank almost any car.

correct me someone if i'm wrong or if u got some more to add.

Guy above is pretty much dead on. Can't really say which is better, depends completely on the car, the driver, and what you're trying to do exactly.

Four cylinder: Single Turbo

Six cylinder and up: Twin Turbo

JMO, everything else has really been covered anyhow.

I'm not the biggest fan in the world of TT setups. I think they are the ultimate in COOL:smoka: but if I was personally going to add a turbo setup to my V8 I would go with a large single turbo, and let the displacementally fueled torqueness of my car to take car of things while it spools

the plumbing of a tt v motor is easier though... the single turbo setup would be nice, but i think you'd still see some lag... even with a v8...

http://veccohpec.com/turbo1.html

that's my friend's tt mustang... i'm not sure how he'd get 1 turbo in there... two are smaller, spool quicker, and can still make tons of hp...

he's got t3/t4's on it... and it pushes about 500 hp right now. should be over 1000 when he's done playing...

if the motor has 2 sets of exhaust ports (IE V8, flat 4, etc.), 2 turbos of equal airflow compared to a large single will spool up faster since there is no crossover pipe. on a motor with 1 set of exhaust ports a single is more likely tospool faster because instead of 2 turbos inefficiencies, you only have 1, and theres no long crossover pipe robbing heat from the exhaust gas.

You can, and I have seen a few TT four bangers, though I find it useless. One turbo is far more efficient in a small engine setup IMO.

You can definitely put a TT on a four cylinder, just don't think it would really be necessary or worth the extra money, time, or effort.

Definitely a "No, no" for an inline 4. There would be a tremendous lag time before the turbos actually spool up that the most u could enjoy is a full 1000 RPM of its power.

The Subaru Legacy GT and RS uses a 4cly engine with sequential Turbos, however since its boxer engine there is plenty of room to run the expanse of pipes required. I think it was done more as a marketing ploy, and attempt to over come the engines loss of low down torque to enable it to pull what is a very heavy car.
It is very common to remove the low speed turbo from the system all together, and run only on the primary, or even swap to a larger primary turbo.

On an inline 4cyl its rather a waste of time, and of course very few cars have enough room to accomdate the mass of piping that would be required.
