Possible Winter Car needs Parts.
Okay guys. I promised Layla she'll never see the snow again and I can't afford to leave Ohio, this necessitates the purchase of a winter car. I'm fairly convinced that I want to buy a Saab 900 16valve off of the same lot where I bought Layla. Thing is, while I know Saabs were rallied extensively in the late 70's, I don't know what all can be done to them. I can't just leave it alone, can I? What's the point of buying a car that won't end up reduced to its basic components on the floor of my garage? Anyone have anything for me?
By the way, it's a beige two door hatch 900 with 5spd. So it's at least pleasing enough stock.

I'd get a honda for a winter car, reliable, cheap on gas, FWD...
No, scratch that... I'd get a Subaru...

A subaru or a Corolla Alltrac wagon... with a 3S-GTE swap from a MR2 turbo...
AWD, lot's of room, tuned for maybe, 350hp... Great winter daily driver, and you can fit a set of skis or snowboards in the back, no problems, it's a wagon...

Get a truck. Haul parts around, and good in the snow with 4x4. I just bought a 1989 toyota 4x4 pickup for a bang around work and winter vehicle. Sure its not fast, thats where the cobra takes over. But there is nothing like sliding sideways at 50 mph in the back field and then taking it through the pond. ( 3 hours later, and two other trucks and I was out of the pond). Also, there are plenty of the toyota trucks around for decent prices.

i Know what you mean by wanting to get the saab, but have you thought about an older Audi? there are some pretty nice handling models availble for good prices plus a lot of them came in 4WD which would be a big bonus in the snow.

There aren't many older Audis here in Ohio for less than $500 bucks. That's why I like the Saab. It's cheap, different, and reliable with sporting aspirations. (performance might be a bit of a stretch since it isn't a turbo) As for trucks, my cousin won't sell me his GMC Typhoon, and I can't afford a Lamborghini LM002. That pretty much eliminates any truck I'm terribly interested in that would be 4wd.
Ah well. That's the way of things, I suppose.

Go for the Saab,there are parts out there a little search or two will find them.Used turbo parts should be usable also.With the hachback you will have a car that can haul more than alot of wagons and still be some fun.Besides you get to have the ignition between the seats,amaze and confuse your friends!Old Subaru's couldn't be more unrewarding to drive if they tried and not really that much better in the snow.
