Revell '66 Shelby mustang GT350H - 1/24

Until now, car modeling always fascinated me. I'm totally impressed when i see some high-quality models, like those of you guys here !
I had done some models before, when i was a child, but i must admit they were not so well done, because i really didn't care back then

But a week ago, i found this site while lurking on internet, and then i started thinking to give it a try again. I though i could make a post here, to show my work in progress, and maybe to get some advices from people here.

Warning : I'm a total noob, so don't be too hard on me. And as a noob, i'll make this model totally out of box, without modifications. Feel free to comment oh and by the way, i'm french, so my english may sucks a lot

About the model, my choice went to this kit from Revell :

- And now, let's begin with the motor :

Front view

Front-side view, with cylinder heads

Side view, with valve covers

Back view

Starter and fan-belt

Intake manifold

And voila, that's all for today

Re: Revell '66 Shelby mustang GT350H - 1/24

Little update, motor is now finished ( you may think it take some time, but i don't want to screw up anything going to fast )

Intake manifold in place :

Carburator and fan in place :

Exhaust headers in place :

And now, the finished motor :

But now i need some advices about the air filter : the manual states that i must paint the filter part in white, but i think that won't go well with the rest of the motor. So what do you think about it ?

Nice work.
Concerning the air filter, I think you should paint it "off" white, as it represents the filter himself, and for so far I remember, those are in a kind of paper.
Cheers,

Jamme

the air filter is white because this kit is representing a car that was made in 1967, they didn't have all the latest K&N, ACCELL, or any other aftermarket oiled lifetime airfilters. so yeah, I agree with JAMME, paint it off white. A 5:1 mix of white:tan should get you what you need. Or you could just paint it white, and put a light tan wash over it to represent some dirt that has been "filtered"

Might I make a suggestion? look at some hot rod magazines, not necessarily specific to the model you are building, but pay attention to colors, and details on the cars. find out what you like, and apply it. Sure, it may not be correct for the particular kit you are building, but if it makes it more realistic, only the guy who is an enthusiast for THAT particular car will say something.

Yeah, i thought i'll be doing some research, but maybe i don't really know where to search, until now i've collected some pictures of the body, under the car, motor and inside, but i'll need more pictures i think.
Can you tell me where to search ? Thanks

Hi! Welcome to the Forum!

As for the reference pics, I recommend you to use these pages:
www.netcarshow.com - lots of pictures, any kind, wallpaper size
www.autowp.ru - also tons of cars, tuned cars, wallpaper size pics, this site is russian, but you can easily use it as the car brands are written in English
Or I always check www.e-bay.com before deciding a color or the interior color for a kit as there are a lot of car pics out there.
You can even use Google and search for your specific item, it's gonna give you a lot of sites having the car you look for!

Good modelling!

Re: Revell '66 Shelby mustang GT350H - 1/24

Things are going well until now; i started to paint the chassis today, pictures tomorow when it will be dry.

But after painting it, i decided to go out for some shopping, and i ended in a toy shop, which was closing definitively today, and guess what, they were selling models. And here what i got for aproximatively 15€ (20.25$) :

Was i lucky ? By the way, i'll keep this one for later, when i'll be more skilled

It's Tamiya, if you just keep your fingers off of the glass, it should build rather nicely. the hard part is already finished...the body.

Also a lot of times, especially with revell, the color guide will be off. so doing some research before you start a model is always a good idea!

Looking good, can't wait to see more

Re: Revell '66 Shelby mustang GT350H - 1/24

Alright, time for a little update

Chassis almost finished, motor on. Enjoy !

Chassis :

Front Suspension :

Motor on :

Side view with body on ( the front will be a little lower than now ):

Motor bay view :

Feel free to comment

Now i have a question : The revell Kit came with those pieces :

I figured out that the two left parts fits in place of the rear side windows, but the original car has windows. So what for were those pieces included ?
And what about those two pieces at the right? Nothing about thoses in the manual. But they looks like an automatic transmission lever, am i right ?

Re: Revell '66 Shelby mustang GT350H - 1/24

The "Hertz" mustang had glasses instead of the given pieces you show.
If I remember, the other pieces have something to do with the rear suspension.
I think so....

Re: Revell '66 Shelby mustang GT350H - 1/24

the parts that look like shifters, are dual radio antennas. The side window covers are factory "GT" window applications.
