Exclamation Possible fraud

Rock here, 00' GP 3.1. I was driving along and my service engine soon light came on' so that night I took it to a mechanic. Now mind you that my car was running perfectly!!! He ran the tester on it and said i had to change my tranny fluid. But my tranny was running fine, no slipping, no whinning, it felt normaly strong. After $150 dollars and new fluid and filter I started driving home and there was slipping when i would make a left turn. I also noticed alittle whinning along with the slipping. If the the problem was the fluid why am I having problems now with the tranny with never havin a problem before. Now i now trannys don't go out overnight and that they eventually show signs. Any thoughts????

Thanks Rock

Re: Possible fraud

p0118 is tied to an engine temp problem usually not associated with trans functions, sounds like you have a slippage issue, make sure it is full of course then have a trans tech drive/check it out. There is no code that relates to changing the fluid, lots of unanswered questions here.

Re: Possible fraud

Hi Rock,

Got your PM. That is not a tranny related DTC. Closest I see is P0218 which is ATF fluid overtemperature.

Hard to say whether the mechanic was fradulent but the cost seems high. ATF change is a normal course of action. As Max pointed out get the actual DTC and post.

The question is how did he change the ATF fluid. Was the screen filter replaced? Was it a full maintenance flush or fluid exchange flush?

He said he completly flushed the system and yes he did change the screen filter.

What is your current mileage?

Take it back to him and ask for another scan. See if any other DTCs are stored like P1810 or P1811. The flush may have caused the pressure control solenoid (PCS) to act up which is a common problem in any 4T65E autotransaxle.

Re: Possible fraud

slipping when you take left turns? Wouldnt this indicate that the valve body in the tranny is being starved of fluid?

Maybe he put a filter in, but did he replace the filter seal? I'm thinking maybe its possable that he didnt replace it and the pump probably pumps all the ATF right out where that seal is and there isnt enough line pressure to apply the forward clutch completly.

I would take it back and have him do it again at no cost. He messed something up, he should straighten it out.
