Majority of the time when we turn the key off it doesn't come all the way back in order to release the key.....we have to turn key back to start and push on the break pedal and continue to push button on gear shift until you hear something click then it releases the key...how can i fix this and what is causeing this?

Re: 02' Buick Regal
Ever spilled coffee or soda on the floor center console? The key release uses a shift interlock solenoid when brake pedal is depressd, the knob at the shifter is depressed to go to park and subsequently release the key. You may have to remove the console to resolve the issue. Another possibility is the key release device at the steering column if the shift interlock circuit related to the console is OK.
