Unhappy New System... New Problems

ok... i bought a 94 maxima not too long ago from a guy who had his system stolen out of it. i got nissan to reinstall the stock harness so i could install a new radio. anyway i got an alpine cda7893 which is the silver and blue one that flips down and angles. i installed it. works great until i turn the lights on. when i do the sound either shuts off or i get a crackeling noise. THEN i tried to run a new power wire directly from the battery to see if that was it... i turned the radio on and it shut off immediatly. bought a new radio... same thing. i basically rewired the whole thing and it still does it. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?!?!?!?

oh yeah by the way... wired an amp and box... protection light for the amp came on, bought a new amp... started smoking.

is anyone has any ideas or info please let me know... im stumped.

BB

does the 94 have a bose system in it? if so you have to buy a line convertor becuase the bose speakers are amplified individually at each speaker, not at the deck like normal stereo's. If that's not the problem i 'd say to call an exorcist.

He changed the head unit anyways, it shouldn't matter. Its possible that Nissan could have wired the harness wrong. It seems that if you accidentally switched the illumination wire and the ACC wire, this would seem to be a good reason for this to happen. Get a multimeter and check each wire. The power wire should always be on, the ACC only on when the ignition is at ACC and ON, and the illumination wire should be on all the time, except when you turn on your headlights (I may be wrong about the operation of the illum wire, so you may want to have the Dealership check it out, also telling them that they didn't do a good job).

but what i'm saying is you can't run two amplifiers at a speaker. if the Bose speaker already has an amp on it and the deck has one too that might be why the system ain't working right. if it's not bose than i don't know what else it might be

Technically you do this every time you run a high level input to an amplifier. The speaker outputs can be run to an amp's hi level ins, which is then amplified further. I know what you're trying to say though. If you are using Bose speakers with an aftermarket amp and have bypassed the original speaker amps, the 1 ohm impedence would likely fry the amp. But since a Bose system doesn't exist in the car, check for proper grounding or even places where the speaker wires could have been chafed or squashed. The power could be unintentionally grounded through the speaker wires drawing way too much power, but then again, inline fuses on the power wire and fuses on the amp should have blown before it started smoking.

As for the head unit, check those wires I mentioned before and make sure they are the correct ones. A mix up of wires could be the problem, and very likely at that.

i checked all the wires before, even switching someof them around or running direct connections to the battery and ground (by the way, the head unit by default turns the volume up 1/4 of the way the first time you hook it up, when i directly connected the battery to the radio the radio started to turn it self up and then shut completly off). None of this works. i havent however checked to see if the wires have been mashed together somewhere. although it shouldn't matter if i did the direct connections. my brother is a mechanic and he said it could be something called the body control module (BCM). its an electrical sensor that does, uhh, something. anyway i think ill get that checked out. anyone hear of it?
